Quote: You need a DX 9 card to play the game AFAIK... GF 4 MX series is only DX 7, so I think that's the cause.
You mean the graphic card doesn't support DX 9? I installed DX 9 and updated my driver without any succes.

Yep, the GF 4 MX series only supports up to DX 7 graphical effects (you can still install the drivers used for all the cards but you simply won't notice the DX 8.x and 9 components because the card doesn't support them). The GF 4 ti4x00 series supports up to DX 8.1 and from the FX 5x00 series and upward DX 9 is supported (although I'm not entirely sure about the FX 5200 series). So if HOMM5 requires a card that supports DX 9 you won't be able to play it with your current card.

Well that's sad. But thanks for clearing that up. Though I remember playing games that required DX 8.0 or 8.1 ... a bit odd.

Looks like I was a little too quick... I just looked at the system requirements on the box and it explicitly says that the GF 4 MX series are NOT supported... don't know why exactly. But anyway, that's the source of your problem

The FX series is supported although there will be many problems with the lower end cards like the FX 5200 and 5500. One of my machines has a 5500 and the demo was unplayable with it on any graphical setting, it was more like a slideshow than a game (the adventure map at least) Everything did look crystal clear though, it didn't give any rendering problems like Xeron's card.

I've got a 5500, and the game runs perfect, even with most of the settings up full.

Quote: My computer is:
AMD Duron 1600mhz
512MB RAM
GeForce4 MX440 64MB
And when it's loading for game it will crash always Is my graphic card too old?
Ok I have Pentuim 4 3.0GHz
512 MB RAM
but a GeForce 4MX 4000
a still I get the same problem. I have had trouble of this same kind for example wiht Battle for Middle Earth 2. But with Pro Evolution Soccer 5 i was able to get around this by using 3dAnalyze which doesn't seem to work here.
So is there anyway to get around this or must I realy buy a new graphichs card??

Intel P4 2.8 GHz
nVidia GeForce 6600GT 256Mb AGP8x Runs smooth
And for everyone asking about their videocards, in the specs for the game it says NVIDIA GeForce 3/4/FX/6 families(excluding GeForce 4 MX) supported. So thats your problem. It then goes on to say more will be supported as patches come out.

@ SirDunco
I'm trying to get the demo version of H5 to work.
I tried the tow exe-files you suggested (I assume they are the same). They produce the following error: "The program could not start because the file zlib1.dll wasn't found."

That must be since you are running the demo. This fix is for the full version. That's the problem...

Hello.
I have a min. req. pc I'm playing on. When I first played it ran very slow even with all graphics set to lowest and sound off. About the tenth time I went to play, the game-initialization and saved game loading times suddenly took about 1/4 as long as they did before. Has anyone else encountered this?
Also, which would improve performance more, more RAM or bigger graphics card? I can't afford both.
THX.

How much RAM do you have and what is your graphics card?

Hello.
512 ddr sdram(1 stick/1 open slot).
NVDIA GeForce 6100 Integrated video system.
What difference does what I have make? I just would like to know which improves performance more. I know I'm borderline minimum for running this game, and would just like to speed it up a little. For the least amount of bread, of course. I'm NOT rich. I'd have a $2k PC if I was.
