I have Intel graphics 82845G on my board and the fix worked for me when I used it. I had to turn off the eyecandies and lower all the settings and it lags some but it is playable. After a few hours of play graphics start to look worse. Characters loose their details and sometimes in the battle scenes the little filmstrip type pics are blurred out. I have bought another card but haven't installed it yet. Hopefully the lag and graphics quality will greatly improve. I have 796MB RAM. More RAM will probably improve the game as well.
I feel like I am playing Disciples2 with a little Heroes thrown in. I haven't really been able to play enough to know how well I am going to like it. When I get my computer upgraded so that it runs a lot better I will probably enjoy it more.

How out of the loop am I? Just found the patch for the game after typing all this. It says that it will work with some older video cards and onboard video after installing patch.
This file worked for me. The graphics were still kinda crappy but at least the game didn't crash and I was able to play. Some of the towns are extremely dark and I can't see any details when I enter. But I can build and do everything I need to while I am there. If you try to load the game and it crashes when loading the map you should try this file. It says to copy over the original Heroes5.exe but I just renamed mine in case I wanted to switch back. I also found that turning on or using HW cursors got rid of most of the lagging when moving the mouse.

I just found a way that should allow you to play the game with an older Graphic card, the crash during the load problem.
Download this corrected .exe file, copy it over the old one and off you go. Atleast it worked for me and hopefully it will for the rest of you.
Everybody whose game closes during loading screen should try to use this exe file.

Posted by Sir Dunco...give it a try. I guess it has worked good for most who have tried it
I doubt this file will make any difference with the dvd hanging up when it is in the drive. So when you say it won't load you mean you haven't even been able to install the game yet? Just want to make sure I understand what is happening. Maybe you could turn the autoplay feature off on the drive and see what happens. It is something to try anyway. You would then have to try to install the old fashioned way Start, run, and find the setup file for the game.
Sylvan_lover:
On the back of my game case it says that the Geforce 4 mx version of that particular card was not supported by the game but the fix may help you play with it.
I was going to do some upgrading anyway but this game has probably caused it to happen much sooner than I had planned.

kinhell!
Iīm experiencing problems even starting the bloody thing =(
Upon installation the ticker goes to 99% and just starts chugging there ( I discover my virus program "detecting" some sort of virus. After promptly aborting the thing, the game semms installed)
So lets start play,shall we?
no not in my case =(
The game wonīt even start saying that it canīt detect this file and blah.
A friend of my told me to try a crack ( Now youīre thinking why the hell would he do that with a bought version. Finally some luck: at least autorun starts (properly which it didnīt do without the crack) and I can push the "play" icon but after that the game just doesnīt go any further.
Anyways my nails are bloody from the stress and my patience is runni g out...

Got the game running =) and now that you mention the graph setting: If you change it from the Main Menu it switches back to maximum when the map is loaded.

I had the game running on my HP 2.9Ghz onboard graphics machine (768meg RAM) using daemon tools and an iso file made from the original DVD, thanks to the patch posted earlier.
Today I upgraded the graphics card to a GeForce 7600GS (256MBDDR2 128MBIT) and boom, it stopped working.
I tried unstalling/reinstalling the game and re-overwriting the h5_game.exe file but it still crashes. The crash is in h5_game.exe immediately upon load (no intro screens) and says:
AppName: h5_game.exe AppVer: 1.0.0.27 ModName: h5_game.exe
ModVer: 1.0.0.27 Offset: 00541542
if anyone can help with this is would be great.

If you don't have the game yet gogamer.com is having a 48 Hour Madness sale on it for $29.90 now.
I posted this in the bugs and errors thread but seems like someone here said something about one of the towns being really dark when they entered.
The Sylvan town is black for me. I can see a black tree shape and some green lights but no details of any kind.
Just wondering if this is just my graphics card or a bug in the game.

Unfortunately, my pc-skills are below average. I downloaded the files you are referring to, but I do not understand what to do with them. Copy them over what exe-file?

Quote: My comp: P4 3.0ghz 1mb cache. 1024 mb DDR ram. P4P800 SE motherboard. Geforce 6600GT 128mb AGP 8x. 200gb 8mb cache harddrive.
When I play heroes 5 it lag so much its not fun and I have 800x600 and the graphic on very low.
I have no other programs running in the back and I have checked for virus.
So what is the problem?? And the comp is not turning to hot either.
that PC should be more than acceptable. Others' have recommended video card drivers upgrade, which is a good start. But that usually only REALLY matters on a graphically MONSTROUS game and this is not.
Also, if on an LCD Monitor, it is extremely important to play at your monitors "native resolution"
Something many people fail to do is upgrade their Motherboard Drivers. Depending on how old your Mobo drivers are (in relation to the product age as in when was it released), this can REALLY make a big difference. I know when I got my NFORCE 2 mobo I got it with the first set of available drivers. I was really dissapointed that my upgrade was so barely noticeable (1.4 GHz TBird on K7S5A Moboto 2500+ Barton on Shuttle NFORCE2 style Mobo with appropo mild RAM and VIDEO upgrades).
My Forceware driver upgrade made all the diff in the world.
I am on a AMD Barton 2500+ with 1GB DDR333 and a Radeon x1600 Pro AGP card. Overall the game runs smoothly. I use 1280x1024 (my 17" LCD Monitor native resolution) and have max quality and have cranked up the AF and AA with little issues. I found that the AA just makes my system heat up for negligible benefit so I turned it off.
1 in 5 times into it tho, the mouse skips and lags as if, for example, I had a virus scan going or some other intensive program running. Each time I checked I could find no culprit. I just exit and restart and 4 of 5 times it goes back to running great.
Anyone else experience this?

I had DirectX 9.0c loaded on my PC long before this game showed.
Upon installation it told me that i was missing a file. it had "dx" as first 2 letters, so on a whim i loaded the DirectX 9.0c from the HOMM5 disk (even tho I already had it and run Doom3, Farcry and such) and all was well.

If you wanna play on your laptop you need to get the exe file crack that has been mentioned previously in this thread (or I think the latest game patch may also have fixed that problem - try applying the patch). The game will still play poorly on your laptop though.
Your desktop PC will definitely be able to handle the game better. You can get a regular DVD ROM drive for as little as $35 - $40. That is American dollars, don't know how that compares in Singapore. Also you can get one cheaper than that from the internet.

Right click on "My Computer" (may be under the "Start" menu) and select Properties from the menu. In the "System Properties" window that opens click on the Hardware tab and then click on the Device Manager button. The Device Manager window will open showing all the components in your computer. Double click on the Display Adapters list item to see what your graphics card is.

Well, thats basicly a graphics processor built into the chipset that uses the ATI X300 graphics core. X300 is bottom of the line in the Xxxx series and also it's essentialy integrated graphics and shares memory with the rest of the system so to sum it all up.....its not very good
You can definitely find something better for cheap.

Quote: Now..my brother in law who also bought the game is not impressed...he's the true hero fan...bought this hot new laptop about 4 months before the game was released. Shame really. He has 2 gig of ram, processor is even ok for a laptop running at 2.2. It works but so SO slowly like, frame by frame kind a thing. Unplayable.
Any computer savy people here think they'll(ubi) make some sort of a laptop patch for those laptop chipsets or whatever to work?
Lots of memory and a fast processor don't make up for crappy graphics capability. Unfortunately most laptops are just not equipped with good enough graphics power to run a game like this well.

Well i have installed the game in two different pc-s:
1)xp1800+, 512mb, Geforce4 ti4200 64mb and it runs at 1024x768 medium/high bearly playable not perfect.
2)Amd 4000+, 7800gtx sli 2gb ram also 1024x768 all high no aa or af and its smooth only when in the casle. In the "field" when i make max view its even worse then Geforce 4200 med/high.All is updated and drivers are the same in two pc-s.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thats weird because I have almost the same PC as number 2 above and the game runs completely smooth with EVERYTHING on high and full AA/AF on 1024x768. Only difference is I have a 7800 GT and I have only one card running the game...no SLI. My guess is that your problem lies in the SLI. The Nvidia drivers have special "SLI Profiles" for games (and other programs) that optimizes the SLI rendering method for that game and chances are they have not gotten around to optimizing the driver for HeroesV yet which means the SLI will render the game in its default mode and this has been shown in reviews to actually slow down some programs. I would try pulling out one of those cards and see what you get
