lol me again, with of course, the graphics problem, so ive spent a few weeks getting the money i need, and i figured 200-300 should get me a decent card. so i was thinking of getting:
1.ATI Radeon X1600 Pro PCI-Express 512MB Video Card - 199.99
2.ATI Radeon 9200 128MB AGP Video Card - 69.99 (this was one mentioned in the manual, well it mentioned 9000 instead of 9200, but meh)
3.BFG GeForce 256MB PCI Video Card - 199.99
thats the best i thought i found, like the cheap one, i figured i might aswell go with the lower memory, cause heroes only needs 64 unless im mistaken, and all my other games, need that or less. My pointis, which do you think i should get? if any of em, which are morelikely to work, etc.
once, again, all help is greatly appreciated

Your suspicion about the memory is correct....you don't really need a 512MB video card. In fact virtually no game in existance is so graphics intensive that it will justify 512MB of graphics memory. I would reccommend going with a higher end card that has 256MB. There are plenty of cards out there that have sufficient power for $200 - $300. The X1600 would probably be OK but like I said, if your gonna go with the Xxxxx series I would try to go with an X1800 with 256 for the same price. The 9200 is cheap but I don't think your going get the performance your looking for with that one....I would go with at least 9600 in that series. The last one in your list is not a complete graphics card description. BFG is just the brand that makes the card and GeForce is the series of cards made with Nvidia chipsets. BTW PCI and PCI Express are different so make sure you know whats on your motherboard before purchasing a card

I just found a way that should allow you to play the game with an older Graphic card, the crash during the load problem.
Download this corrected .exe file, copy it over the old one and off you go. Atleast it worked for me and hopefully it will for the rest of you.
Everybody whose game closes during loading screen should try to use this exe file.

I'm afraid your graphics card is probably too weak to play heroes 5. More ram will also be necessary if you want the game to run smoothly, I guess.

At the time of release GeForce 4 MX was not supported...
Look here for further details about the System Requirements and how to make it work even on video cards that are under specs.

What about Windows Vista?
Does anyone know if there will be any problems running Heroes V off of the new Windows platform? What about the 64 bit version? I'm just a little bit scared.
Thanks.

I just brought the heroes V expansion HoF. I installed it and installed all the patches. But when i tried to launch the game it came up with a stupid error message saying that i need to put my original cd in the cd/rom drive instead of a copi. But it is the original cd i have in my cd/rom drive. I have tried to reboot my comp and launch the game from the autorun cd menu. But nothing works. Same error message. I have also tried to change my IDE from DMA to pio only suggested by the game here http://www.securom.com/message.asp?m=timeout
So does anyone know how to fix this stupid problem?

Lol guyz so on my new labtop i bought a week afta vista was released, i have a 128 MB driver/vid. card or w/e, but my actual video card is only Mobile Intel (R) 945GM Express Chipset Family, apparently it seems pretty crappy, cuz im not supposed to be able to run better games or smthing. But the thing is this, i run high tech recent games like near perfectly, only problem is i ALWAYS run into problems with advanced lighting. For example, for Heroes V, wheneber i enter either the lighter towns like Sylvan or Academy, its always dark and shady, but i can still build and buy and stuff. Im sure if i can tweak some stuff in the program i'll be able to somehow get to see those towns with full color and stuff, but still does ne one have ne clue bout this situation right now? Also the funy thing is I can run the game on highest resolution with highest graphic quality w/ eye candies best settings all over, and yet this is like the only problem i run into, i mean i dont even ever have lag on my friggin labtop!

Quote: Your card's driver doesn't support hardware T&L, which apparently is needed by heroes 5.

According to the article it might be supported in future versions of the driver.
So is ther ne way that i can configure my mod to display some of the colors at least, and take away some good stuff? Cuz iduno, somehow by limiting lighting or w/e or reducing shadow or fog or something, i would think ther must be a way to make some color come back, cuz i mean i can like see entire town of have fine! And by any chance might ther be a mod to configure my settings to be able to see some colors for sylvan and academy? Cuz ther is no way im only one with this horrible problem.

I have a weird problem...
My specs are:
AMD Athlon Dual 3600+ Mhz
256 Mb Ram ( GeForce DAYTONA, 7300 GT)
2 Gb DDRAM2, Elixir at 667 Mhz
Thing is I still get some glitches, when I am a bit zoomed out, and I am far into the game, with huge armies running around. I have to zoom a bit in, to see the game running smoothly again.
Anyone knows why?

i can't play that wonderful game
i have Intel® Pentium® dual core 1.73GHz(T2080), Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 950 (128MB), 1GB of RAM and i can't play heroes 5.
The game starts, i can select settings, i can choose game, but i can't play, after the "loading" menu ends the error message comes with "send" or "don't send" to Microsoft and thats all, i tried it on Win Vista and Xp no differance.
Can somebody tell me where is the problem, maybe its in my VGA card?

I think it's your graphic card that's lacking. I'm not positive, I'm no wiz in technical stuff, but I had exactly the same problem before I updated my graphic card. Also try to update drivers - it might not help, but it never hurts.
