I'm no expert, especially not on laptops, but the obvious place to start since the problem is the sound would be the sound card drivers - have you checked for updates on drivers?

Solar> Check the company's website, or just google [x company] sound card drivers. They should be available for installation.

Oh, sorry. Did not notice this topic at once.
So I will just cross-post here and if the moderators consider it important, they should delete my old post

Heroes 5 cursor problem

Hello, all.

I am having a problem with the cursor.

There are 2 possible looks:
1. the standart cursor - a horse, which is extremely large and very unconvenient. Really hard to play with this cursor.

2. if you turn on hardware acceleration of the cursor (I am not sure this is the correct name in the settings, as mine are in russian), then the cursor does not work the way it should.
Instead of the horse in shows the standart windows cursor (arrow)

As far as I understand, this is due to the fact that my video-card is not able to show this cursor using the hardware.
I have an ATI Radeon X1700 256MB video card on my laptop.

I have tried this on Intel GMA (in-build video) on my work PC - it's the same here.

And help would be really appreciated.

As mentioned in the other thread, it might be that you are not patched up to latest version of the game. Start out by downloading patches 1.1 through 1.5 and see if this helps. Look here for patch download links.

Well, actually yes, I have version 1.5 of the original game
and version 2.1 of the add-on.

Yes, the cursor is a gauntlet, but if you move the cursor to a point on the map, where you can move your hero, or move it to an object that can be "used", the cursor is supposed to change to a horse.

Basically, as I have read somewhere here on this forum, starting with one of the versions, the horse was changed to a unicorn.
And man, it's a bad replacement, I tell you.

Anyway, the weird stuff is:
In the original game (version 1.5) the cursor works fine (both hardware and software)

In the add-on (version 2.1) it doesn't work.

This means, that the videocard of mine has nothing to do with this.
And this means, that it's a bug in the add-on

Also, after looking into the game folder, I found the hwcursors folder, where all the .cur files are.
Will try substituting them with the old cursors when I get home.
Will post about the results

Ok, that might be worth a try. If it doesn't work, re-installing HoF + Patch is also worth a try. Often solves most problems.

Are you telling me, that everyone on this forum doesn't have this problem??
Maybe most of the people don't have the add-on version 2.1 installed?

Because I highly doubt it, that it's just my luck.

Just in case, I installed the Heroes 5 Silver Edition.

First time I hear of it, there are many versions around and even if you have the same with others you never know what problems you'll encounter. It has been that way since the whole patching process began.

Found the cursors
you can download them here:
http://www.maps4heroes.com/heroes5/download/cursors.rar

but this did not solve the problem.
the orig game responded as expected, the cursors changed to the new (old) horse.
but with Hammers of Fate - still the same windows arrow

As far as I know, it depends on both the videocard and the power supply. I own an NVIDIA GeForce 8 Series which is guaranteed to run HOMMV. However, my power supply was not strong enough. I bought a new one (400 Watt) and now if runs very smoothly. Mind that if you run the game with too little power supply, your laptop might crash) Also, what are the specifics of your laptop? Things like memory, exisiting videocard, the likes of that.

The power supply is the part of your computer (not sure how it works on laptops) that cools down your computer. If you use a strong videocard (the one you mentioned), it could happen that your computer isn't able to correctly cool down, thus resulting in malfunctioning. I'd advice you to ask your local computer store. Don't forget to write down your computer's specifics, such as power supply (what amount of watt?), system (windows xp, or vista?), built in videocard (how much mb?) etc... Good luck!
