I think they used more: "the end justifies the means", but I could be wrong...
Also, if they haven't show video, picture or something, how can you believe that it is true? Usually, great military or political actions are followed by pictures or videos. I find it strange that something like that hasn't been revealed so far. Well, at least I haven't saw.

I believe it's true because for such an important figurehead, the government has to be absolutely sure that it is true. Otherwise, Osama will just televise a program that tells everyone that it was a lie and people will become more disillusioned with the government and its integrity. I don't know why they haven't shown any pictures or any videos of the body, but if I had to hazard a guess, I would blame censorship and today's media. There are just some overly violent and downright gruesome things that you can't show kids these days in America...

If Osama isn't dead, he could release a video (and a series of subsequent video responses to authenticate the message) and completely **** the CIA's image. They would be shooting themselves in the foot and the entire world would be laughing its ass off. A blunder of that proportion would probably oblige Obama himself to apologize to the nation.
Now, you might casually theorize that he's captured but not actually dead (though there's no explicit basis to think that), but there's absolutely no reason to think he's still alive and active.

Well, he could have several videos ready to be publicly revealed, even though he is dead (if he is dead...). Than it would have the same effect that you just said.

Quote: 1) Politics is always about lies. No matter the place or country or even time.
Politics is always about lying at the right place and time with no fear or very little fear of being caught. If the benefits outweigh the risks, then yes, there will be a lie. Lying about this would be classified as a catacalismically bad lie.
Let's use an example. Fox news claims that President Obama was shot and killed in his home. Each member of Fox news collaborates on this fact, agreeing that Obama is, indeed, dead. People believe them. The next morning, CNN has a live interview with Obama and he tell everyone that the rumors of his death are highly exaggerated.
Fox's credibility and support vanish like smoke as all but the most fanatical watchers disbelieve most of every exclusive story they cover. Translate this to the current topic of a dead Osama bin Laden, and the American government. They claim he is dead. If he isn't, Osama comes out, makes a televised rebuke of the US, and then the entire government, who backs his death up, is no longer trustworthy, and the parties fall out of favor. As I said, a caticalimically bad lie.
Quote: 2) Censorship!? why!? These days nothing is censored. The best examples are reality shows. No need to say anything else about this...
Every major news company has been sued repeatedly for showing dead bodies, nudity, disabilities without some kind of hopeful message pined to them and "Improper" material. Since we have no idea what state the room or bodies were in when they were found (The walls could have been coated in blood and the bodies torn violently apart), I would assume that the new would not show anything for fear of multitudes of people suing them.
Quote: 3) Can you show gruesome thing to any kind? No. But, I think that a kid isn't watching news at all. He is either in school, playing PC, or drinking somewhere outside...
You would be surprised. I know kids (yes, American kids) no older than five or six who watch the 10 o'clock news. 75% of the 12 year olds I know also watch the news. Showing them something like what I have given as an example of up above gets you sued, and does damage their psychology.

Well, reality shows are often edited in a way to make more drama than there really is, or to ham handedly force a non-existent point into the show.
(That's a form of censorship.)

Do you guys think the Seals that completed the operation should get medals of honor? I heard this get brought up.
On one hand, they're already unofficially guaranteed unlimited blowjobs for the next 20 years minimum, so floating them some medals would be a small addition. Normally that's only given when put in a severe position, though storming an unknown mansion did have risk attached to it.

So Osama is buried at sea, i wonder if it is Muslim custom
Now the question is! Are they hiding his death which may not really be his death.
I mean come on, Obama would look like a fool coming to us live praising Osama's death.
I can not see him coming on to say he made a mistake.
Even though that would be more credible then lying about it.
We all know all the presidents are usually controlled by the govt & the Military.
He makes the decisions, but does he do it without being a puppet?
I got a really bad feeling about this.
A really bad one.
A trap perhaps... Is America any better then anyone else.....
Really bad feeling.

If he's not working for them that is. In any case, no intelligence institution really cares about its public image but about the security of the respective nation or, more precisely, government system. In any case, bin Laden was a good boogeyman during the first few years after 9/11 but now the world has more or less forgotten about him in the light of some more recent events and as he's no longer useful, he's most likely dead indeed. Could be part of the election campaign as well.

Telling the truth is one thing and telling lies is another. Mistake in major news is possible. It happened in my country this year.
Quote: Every major news company has been sued repeatedly for showing dead bodies, nudity, disabilities without some kind of hopeful message pined to them and "Improper" material. Oh... Well it is different in my country... The news with more nudity or scandalous picture, title or whatever, sells more that ordinary news paper which tries to tell the truth and not to be some cheap entertaining papers only which sells good. Anyway, since our cultures differ on this topic I think we should leave it at this.

In my country news are watch when they are older, of course that there are exception but generally speaking news are watched when they are more politically aware and when they are between 15 - 18 years old. But I could be wrong here. After all, everything changes over time...

It's more of a speculation but it should not be put aside just because it does not sound nice. Bin Laden was incredibly useful for the US external policy, specifically the part where this policy materialized in the form or bombs, tanks and infantry in two strategically placed countries which, among other things, just happen to be on both sides of Iran that do not border sea or Russia-dominated region. That's pretty convenient too.
