I think my "Mother Nature" = Female Druid stance is pretty solid.
Also, female druids? How about Stronghold? Their 'Daughters' are basically druids/shamans, commune with Father Sky and Mother Nature.

Dark Elves usually ALWAYS have female units in the line up, because they're a matriarchal society where females are the dominant. Since they're still Elves, you could reason that female Elves potentially could share this. Its hard to imagine anything that 'couldnt' beat up an elf though. Unicorns should be the dominant force behind Sylvan.

If female elves have human-like breasts, archery's probably not the best choice of occupations.

More importantly, because we're not being given the option to block certain users, you all need to learn how to ignore the troll that is emo. He's always gonna find a way to engender a conversation... And if he's not doing it himself, he waits for that one person that in some manner, empowers women, whether consciously or not, and makes it his life's goal to invalidate the comment. The sooner you all realize this, the sooner he will internalize his insignificance.

When you think about it, it's kinda sad. Reminds me of a couple of ex-friends who would do or say anything to grab attention in an effort to craft/solidify an identity. But borrowing from what Xerox said about the nature of the current discussion (whether druids should be male or female), "who cares?"... Let me appropriate that and say, should any of us really care about what emo has to say?

Like really?

He feeds off on baseless arguments. I can only speculate how he can live a functional life being preoccupied with so many message boards/topics/forums and leaving so many lengthy messages in each. Not talking once in a while, or a few times a day... I'm talking consistently. His post count on Sucks...Christ, It just... it boggles me.

With this in mind, how can any of us take such an individual seriously? Take it from someone who was in a high traffic board, where 95% of the members (how's that for some classic emo speculative exaggeration) have blocked/ignored him and all his pathetic sub-nicks and ghosties. Ignore the troll, and he will find some other overpass to dwell in.

As for the current discussion at hand, I always thought the H1 Druid was female, but I don't remember if the game had SFX to support that or not.

I have the feeling that he is half-honest, although I think he exaggerates and provokes on purpose at the same time, to get attention.

Anyway. The druid of the Sorceress town in Heroes I was female. The Sorceress town was always a traditionally feminine town (as opposed to the more masculine Warlocks), so it having a relatively larger proportion of feminine creatures would make sense.

@Hotarubi
You're right Hotarubi. The simplest way to ignore me is just, do not bash men and empower women. Simple as that. Sucks kept on doing just exactly that, so I feel it's my obligation to do the opposite. If you bash men, I bash women. If you empower women, I empower men.

@AnkVaati
But Warlocks in Ashan are the feminine ones. To balance it up, let's have the forest faction masculine this time.

@Dwarfurious
I think what Elvin was saying was that historically, there were none or at most, very few female Druids. At least, that was what is known about the Celtic culture.
So yes, female Druids does not exist or rarely exist. Elvin is right.

@Xerox
You know, feminists would have created an uproar if there was an all-male faction. We've already seen this happen in Assassin's Creed even though not many of them are playing it or the Haven faction before the last creature was spoiled. So, aside from me, feminists care.

I don't recognize Ashan or the new lore. And female dark elves have been portrayed by Ubi and their underlings as kinky sex objects rather than equals of their male counterparts. They were obviously designed for the male audience, not the other way around.

You're wrong because:
* In H5, the most powerful dark elf creature is the Matriarch.
* It was clearly stated that women have a higher status in dark elf society.
* dark elves use assassination, seduction and stealth to beat their opponents. Take note of seduction.

But I'm with you though. I don't like seeing porn in my games. I'd rather have those bodies covered unless they have a good reason not to. For instance, wood elf blade dancers. It said they don't wear armor or shirts to focus everything on speed (which is why I guess dark elf furies are also not wearing shirts).

They could cut a boob like amazons. That would also shut feminist claims about gender objectification. A woman who decides to take out one boob to kill more eficiently is certanly not a "damsel in distress" or a sexualy defined characther.

The fact that u have no idea how to be seductive doesn't mean all men are like u...

P.S. I only saw the amazons were already refered after this post but I keep what I said, female archers with a breast removed would be awesome.

But feminists would still be complaining about one breast removed. It's violence against women. Or something in the lines of women need to be men to function in this world.
Hey, their words, not mine.

@Avisorb
I really don't care if something is a what ripoff as long as its cool and its interpreted into HoMM version.
I am all for Blade Dancers. They are a cool creature. They are the very definition of Sylvan: fast but fragile. The only thing I ask of Limbic is that they should be manlier. It's sad seeing a potentially cool creature wasted in H5.

All their units are kind of rip-offs. I mean, the treant is a given, unicorn/druid was also used in warlords/age of wonders series along with the treant/tree elemental and green/fairy dragon. Three different series that gave Elves the same units.

While the Dwarves had pickaxe-polearm-swinging shield guys (im not even sure what the weapon is called, a long handled pickaxe), dwarven martial artists and harpoon throwers. But noo FORTRESS was totalllyy unoriginal

It's not that Fortress was unoriginal, it's just that most people don't like dwarf with a side of dwarf with a side of dwarf. It's a subjective opinion, but that's just the prevailing opinion, which I agree with. Even Haven, which has been the conventional exception to this, had 5 human units versus Fortress's six dwarf.

It doesn't help that much of the gaming community would still prefer theme over race. Prior to Heroes 5, the franchise had yet to become one among a thousand other postmodern recreations of Tolkien's universe from the early 20th century. Not that I dislike Tolkien's universe anymore than I dislike chocolate chip pancakes, but give them to me for breakfast enough times in a row and eventually I'll elect for the suppository route for my nutrition. It just gets old after awhile. HoMM used ideas from real life folklore, of course, but it was still largely its own animal. Dwarves and elves once belonged to the same faction, and in the Heroes universe, that wasn't odd.

After reading just about all 2600 comments on the official poll, its a very common complaint that "Dwarves" were not original on the basis that they were "dwarves" and that the Dwarf faction (composed of dwarves) had too many Dwarves. Which is frankly silly, might as well whine that the necromancers had too much undead.

Having some factions BE racially composed is a good thing, so that every faction isnt the same "fantasy grab bag". Fortress and Haven feel like actual Empires, just like Academy has only 1 actual Wizard and a bunch of creatures it makes sense given their lore. Thats just looking a the big picture though, if all races had the same composition.

Necropolis is a diverse faction with creatures that are so different, they might as well be of different species. You have your skeletons, your zombies, and so on. In Fortress, the dwarves are all very similar except they're armed differently (aside from the ridiculous Giant Dwarf). It's fine to have a faction of humans like that, because Human Knight Town is a standard fantasy thing, but if you have a town of Dwarves With Different Jobs or Elves With Different Jobs, that gets boring.

Good point. Fortress was established as an actual empire, hence, the 6 dwarves shouldn't be a problem. It's justified. Unfortunately, a lot of purists don't want that. You should visit my "Design your Fortress" thread. You'd have a fun time there.

I for one don't have a problem with elves and dwarves used over and over again. These creatures are an established physics in fantasies. They are like gravity to fantasy, like an established medium. Fantasy games won't be the same without them for me.

Nah!!! It was a self imposed decision from someone who wiched to be a strong member of her community. Amazons were not male oriented characthers. They weren't some Lara Croft figures. Warriors, nomads, horse riders and living in a matriarcal society where men were used for fun and reproduction, they were in fact a personification of the sheepish Athenians fear for women.
In Sparta and Troy women had a much more active roll then in Athens, so Athenians created a myth about something they feared. It's well documented how they were much more brotherly love fans.

I noticed you didn't comment the other thing I said but in fact I have something to add.
Seduction is a male characteristic. Peacocks have beautifull tales, deers fight each other and men write poetry and perform acts of chevalry to lead females to the sack. It's because seduction is a male thing that when a woman behaves that way an extremely conservative person could use the term sedutor to describe her. It's the tradiotional double standart: men are well succeed, women are demoness.
