Vesuvius, just a hypothetical question.
If I were to visit a half dozen internet cafe's with the idea of screwing around with map ratings at TOH would I be able to do it?
It's just a hypothetic question mind you and I am not suggesting that anyone at TOH would be pathetic enough to do such a thing...though the TOH HOS is proof of the depths that some will sink for a fleeting glimpse at fame.
If it is possible, then I would suggest a more detailed transaction log of the map ratings program be kept...not enough detail in the summary.

going frenzy here?
you guys do like ToHIV future depends on map ratings!
most of them were developed at early MP stages or even before MP even released,,doesnt it make sense for most of them to be out of date?
what this community needs is more quality maps, more players that will take the whole 'ToHfun' seriously, and a little 'divine intervention' by 3d'oh ,giving us the transfer anti-bug patch.
..or maybe some 'simultaneous turns' patch..
,,eerr,,ok,,just kidding here..didnt mean it
,,sorry

popularity vs. player rating
While it's nice to have a high player rating, I think the popularity gauge is more significant. As a mapmaker, that tells me what players want--the kind of maps they want to play. Note that Dog Days and Boring's Mountain are (I think) the most popular maps. Of course, they've been on the site longer, probably, than many other maps, but what does it say that people play them more often? I think those maps are quick kill maps. That's really what players want. Yet the maps council, from what I can tell, wants slow-developing maps, presumably to protect newbies. Why should we not give players more of what they want instead?
just a question--nothing implied--i'm not taking a stand on this issue, so don't grill me

They're also both CD-maps and very easy to get the hang of which would contribute to their popularity, as well as the smallness thing.
Another question, is it possible to get the town in Death's valley on the second day playing order on advanced difficulty? I have a feeling it isn't, but I may just be a llama

That's bad for my ego
I'll have to try again. I haven't been able to play much the last couple of days and I won't for the next couple, I've been working heaps. I'll let you know when things quiet down a bit and we can finish that map...

I dont think that is true. The reason those maps are played the most is that certain high-ranked players who play a lot have a "we play this map or we dont play at all" policy. And since those players play a lot games, those maps get played a lot. At least this is my theory
That combined with the fact that someone mentioned a couple posts ago about how those maps come with the game, so obviously they are already there in the person's map folder ready to play.

Quote: Although Im sure Death players wouldn't like this, one easy way to prevent rushes would be to disable the option of Death on the random starting castles on maps such as Magic Forest or Dog Days
What do you think about this Bob? Maybe have a "no death" version of the rush maps
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Riiiight  I see you guys have a lot of funny ideas...at least Hidden tried to balance the Dog Days by disableing some buildings in the Necro castle...when i've looked at his map i had no tavern, no skeletons, no imps, no magic guild...no nothing Nada de nada But disable the death castle ???? What's the deal ? If you don't wanna play vs death you can just refuse to play...What's the trick ?!?
Imo in general the only problem with the necro it's the GM necromancy. That's all. No vampires sounds really silly...i can't play vs an order with lots of genies and teleport/hypnotise/berserk/other good spells with venom spawns...If an order wants me not to play with vamps...well...no genies. Nagas vs venoms...Would be interesting i guess...

Riiight...i haven't played dog days for ages...never played magic forest. But who cares...we can say anything 'bout anybody...even if i've never played the guy. Keep up the good work...

i know some of you are aware of this already, but I thought it should be brought up anyway...
In Death Valley, Blue has several more things in his area than Red for some odd reason. The most unbalancing one - blacksmith... Red has to buy an expensive blacksmith in his castle if he wants to buy potions of immortality, but blue simply has to visit the convenient external blacksmith...
also, Im not sure which version is the latest, but in Bob's version of the map (i currently have a game going w/bob on the map and i am red... thus my complaints ) I cannot reach my griffin's nest below the top left town due to a tree and the edge of a mountain being diagonal from each other. However when I open my version in the map editor the mountain has been moved a space back so that you can get to the griffin nest... so maybe Bob has older version? And no, there are no bandits blocking the way --- you really can't get through.
Anyway, just thought I'd bring these things up

well, about the blacksmith, i've played the map a few times and never got the potion of immortality in the blacksmith. So if it's an advantage (doesn't red have anything to counter it?) it's not that big.

Nah... you just need to DL the latest version. (1.3)
It was truly difficult for red previously tho. Even now you can expect to take the town with only the hero that had the potion remaining.

Well folks we've got several good new maps that are going to be posted sometime soon...
There's one from an established mapmaker (who has one very popular map on TOH right now) and one from a new mapmaker (but a long-time(maybe famous) TOH member)... his first map.
Im not saying who they are because I think I might get in trouble or bob would get mad at me or something... But I couldnt help but splurge a little
P.S. - Bob do you now have uploading powers? Or do we hafto wait till ves gets back (which the apocalypse could possibly happen before) before these maps can go up :-(
Sorry to sound b i t c h y but I hate waiting so long :-(

For once in my life i must agree with flipmo...If u r playing with venom against order u r buried...I hate people making rules (just to be sure they'll win). The only rule which is indeed a must is no GM necromancy.
And i've seen flipmo buried a lot of good players (and eventually raised them like vampires ) so i think u guys r unffair with him.

I have upload powers =) Muhahahaa , but I know ves doesnt want me messing with the map page. SO even if I uploaded the maps I couldnt alter the map page to offer thye links to them... I could however make a front page news item about the new maps with links to them there =) That might work until ves gets back
