So you think a demonic armee with a barbarian or a necromancer would work ?

The former yes, a shatter, retribution and aura of swiftness should work nicely vs academy for instance. Or dungeon.

but you can't use bloodrage.

If you depend on the first charge why would you care about bloodrage? Only real drawback is the power of speed loss.

Long time ago I had a game with 4 factions(I was Stronghold), and I was lucky that my first enemy was Inferno. I rushed him with Grumsh/Kragh and was able to buy Demons.
And then I mixed it all together :
Succubus Seducer, Cyklops, Pit Lords and Zentaurs. It was pretty much fun, especially the Pit Lords, but I still think that Gating and Rage are very important class skills.

With the good (not dwarves) factions that works very well(who needs Avenger ??? ^^), but don't you think that that the evil factions need their own Heroes ?

@El_cheater once one has enough creatures in an army, it's not really about hero-class skills necessarily; it's that might faction based heroes can go well with might faction creatures; like orc hero with demons have retribution AND aura of fastness and barb luck with shat dark (who needs rage/gating when army with hero might stats/retrib is good anyway?)
btw: Battlecry still works too

{imo, ubisoft/nival did very well where demonlords can't get retribution & leadership/light are 2% skills for a good reason}...

heck, you could even have haven/sylvan hero with retributive demons if morale boosters & good light spells(regen/RM) turn up
{but this is only after the initial game start is over because gating/dark/lots of mana is typically good for hard creeping}

I think the only possible way to do it without WarMachines (for Inferno) is probably swift gating.  Throw in a tactics probably.  Just blitz em.  Hit them hard, hit them fast, and hit them often.

Get gating up as fast as possible, work to swift gating, and take only walkers at first.

Well, ok, that makes sense. But I would rather die than leading Demons with a Knight, it goes against my principles

So it's Grok again. And he is indeed a good hero. But with Deleb he's the only one who can do a good rush (Don't you think ? )

Crap, why Grawl doesn't start with attack? I would love him

and with dungeon? I suppose you could hit hard both with your army and your spells.
not sure if the demon army is better at charging than the dungeon army nevertheless. they have black dragons and raiders

Only problem is rare defense, the warlock can blast his enemies nicely. In fact I posted a replay with warlock leading inferno the other day, unfortunately enemy knight had cloak of Sylanna.

Inferno on heroic difficulty is still very challanging.

Dryads guarding wood and sawmills, suffered some losses.  Then its lots of grim riders, lots of vampire lords, horde of blackbear riders, horde of marksman or horde of ghosts?!  I am landlocked otherwise.  Week 1 forget it, even week 2 is a stretch.  At least week 2 I can take out a horde of plague zombies without losses, after a 20 minute complicated battle.

But still, by week 2, here's my only chance: horde of windriders guarding the shipyard.  I tried 5 times, cannot possibly win without losing my whole stack of familiars.  Now I'm stuck and screwed, doomed to live off shipwrecks and treasure chests...

I think with inferno skilling is extremely important at the beginning. You should take consume corps and mark of the damned as soon as possible. Then try to get war machines. Since attack and knowledge boosts ballista's damage, war machine is for inferno. In the first encounters hero and ballista should save your bottom.

My usual tactics is big group of lvl 2, and 3 or 4 stack of 2-3 imps depends on how much needed to gate 1 imp. Then you put mark on enemy and pray that neutrals do not get morale too often. But even this way, losses are unavoidable. If you can get pits later, you should replace the demons with them, but be caeful, both pits and demons are very slow, regen is not that huge help as it is with cavaliers.

Mass slow matches the usual caslte-builder tactic, if you fight non-dragon high level creatures. You simply gate yourself around, and put mark, and wait untill your hero kills them all. You can abuse some foolish AI, since they do not attack always gated ones, if they can see a little gap, they try to get there and kill "real" creatures.

Mastermind is a hell for inferno since first battles are very risky, especially if those are shooters, you are almost dead.

But if you survive first battles with low losses, you will see that every faction must afraid of inferno power in later game.

This is the only faction which I seriously consider to go for ultimate skill. Urghas'call is incredibly strong, also its availability around lvl 25 which is quite low level, and good components makes it a real option. (Battle frenzy, flaming, suffering strike, swift gating...)

Surely its not an easy faction to play with, surely needs luck at the first creeping phase, but there are very few more dangerous guys around in 4-5 weeks armies then Nymus with Urghas.

Hi there Kispagat!

The last days were so completely taken this month that I haven't checked further discussion on this thread. So I never had the opportunity to thank you for this particular post. This one was very inspiring, and you managed to give me back some inspiration to try inferno a couple more times.

So this is just to say thanks, in case you by any chance step by to see this.

from my experience i can say this, deleb is for begginers and those that have abandonment issues, cause i find creeping with grok after getting teleport assault more viscious.

but there is one thing that people here are over looking: what about demon V.S demon?

Huhmmm have things changed since when this was first written? Since I've had my fun with all the other factions I am now trying Inferno and it never seems as complicated as this thread made me think.

Perhaps because TotE inproved Inferno a lot?

(also: why not using Deleb?)

Well depends on starting area and how fast you wish to take some creeps. For instance lots of tier 7 on week 3 you may find hard if you don't know how, also hunters/crossbows/druids are hell week 2 without machines. Deleb removes the uncertainty, you know you will have machines asap so a lot of neutrals will give you no losses.

1. yes Inferno isn't a beginner-friendly faction, but working with it is less a painful slow death than the OP thinks. Then again, the OP wrote when TotE didn't exist.

2. as for Deleb, my point was exactly: Why should one not use Deleb? It's basically like trying to make Academy works without gremlins. It certainly is a design mistake of Nival/Ubisoft/whatever to make one hero such a much better choice than the others but still this is how the faction works. In short, I'm not sure I see why one should think up of ways to use Inferno without Deleb.

Hmmm, Deleb is good, but I personally prefer Grok. Like demonking said, teleport assault with Grok is vicious. Not to mention that his capabilities extend beyond just combat. He automatically starts off with logistics, allowing to go faster and farther than most other heroes.
