The babysitter kills them all. Then she kills you. Poor moral choice.
Try again.

There are no good or bad choices here, we're talking about ambiguous, everyday moral dilemmas which have no easy way out.
Anyhow we might want to move these serious ethical questions to the VW and let this thread get back on track.

Perhaps.
But when I saw the everyday moral dilemma of seeing an elderly babysitter risking to get caught stealing because of a toy for a 6 year old she's paid to watch over, I just had to add to the fun.
I REGRET NOTHING

LMAO Baklava.
When you put it that way, I guess 4.1 doesn't make much sense.

Quote: Dilemma #4.2
You are in a retail store in the toy section and you see a young white girl (age ~ 6 years) looking at Barbie dolls with an older white woman who is very obviously her babysitter. The young girl picks a Barbie off the shelf and tells the babysitter that this is the one she wants to get. The babysitter takes out a kitchen knife and dismembers the girl in the glorious name of Satan.
Do you intervene?
Unless the babysitter is uber athletic, and is clearly capable of outrunning me, i would start shout "SECURITY!" or something similar.
The worst part is that she is armed, and I most likely lack anything to fight with.
It is my responsibility to at the least shout, but I would not tackle her unless she has a ridiculessy slim frame, she looks malnutritioned or similar.
Now, if I spot it and get a shoot at running at her before she dismembers and incapacitates the child? Unless she has some special forces security guard build, I guess it would be my responsibiliy to at the least attempt to act.

I'd probably join in... the babysitter was good looking and I'd have a chance with her. if not, I would probably start a sacrificial conga-line.

Ok,
Dilemma #5
When you ask your twelve eight year old son what he wants for his birthday, he says the thing he wants most is a Barbie and an easy-bake oven. Your friend tells you that you shouldn't encourage that kind of behavior and you should buy him something more appropriate for a boy. Otherwise, he might turn out gay.
What do you do?
(Sorry Baklava, cutting him up with a sword isn't a viable option.)

If I can afford it I give him what he wants. If he later in life decides to have sex with men, then that is his decision, though I doubt some pieces of plastic will have much influence on that choice.

I would disarmingly ask him why he wants a barbie doll and an easy-bake oven.
I would avoid buying him a barbie doll and instead try buying him something similar but without the barbie, such as a special cooking kit, and, given his age, encourage him to maybe do some real-deal cooking with me.

I have no idea where the MORAL problem is.
However, I seem to have a friend who has something against gays and a couple of strange opinions, which might be a problem, and I seem to have a 12-year-old son who STILL wants to play with barbies instead of having found the juicier stuff in the internet. Or long bought himself a barbie from his allowance or got one from Ebay or the next yard sale.
So the problem seems to be that I didn't prepare my son adequately for dealing with the world.

I think I would warn him that his schoolmates will probably make fun of him if they find out.

you don't know what he does with his barbies
but is it that weird that he doesn't seem interested in "juicier stuff"? I mean, he is still young. my sister is 11, and despite talking about sexual stuffs (I think she has no idea what it means and do it because her friends do it) she doesn't even want to see some body parts because she thinks it's disgusting.

Having thought about it, let's change his age to 8.
So JJ your point of view is that I should ditch the Barbie and get him a subscription to awesomesnows.com ?

Hell, no.
But maybe you should consider leaving him out of his playpen.
Anyway, 8 sounds a lot better.
I still see the problem more with my "friend", who sounds more like my neighbor - the one with the "KILL ALL HIPPIES" sticker on his car.
I'll accept the Barbie wish, but decline the oven, commenting that I won't tolerate him playing the witch baking Gretel - and if wanted to cook he could do it for real with us in the kitchen.
