Haven is fine, the way I see the humans are a numerous race. They can make huge armies on their own.
I'm pretty sure the Dwarfs in Ashan are numerous as well. But that doesn't mean I have to like them.
Dwarfs are so bloody boring!
If they should have a faction that is entirely orientated around their racial units, it should either be humans or a completely new unique race.....
imo
(Orcs is fine too, even if they should have had the Wyvern)
No argue about that, less dwarves and more Magic/beast units. but please don't make any D&D faction agein. I Have to get the fealing they od to kill eache other insted of there enemy.

Ok, like I said before, I have been thinking about A Heroes VI style Dwarves. I also said I had some pics ready and I have some basic ideas for their roles.
So here goes:
Core:
Defender > Shield Guard (Role: Melee tank)
Skirmisher > Javalineer (Role: Mobile Short ranged unit)
Lava Toad > Volcano Toad (Role: Ranged Unit that spit globs of Lava)
Elite:
Rune Cleric > Rune Forger (Role: Caster/Shooter Support)
Cave Troll > Wrecker Troll (Role: Tank)
Bear Rider > Bear Knight (Role: Spearhead(Read: unit that reaches the other side of the battlefield first, can deal plenty damage and can take quite some damage itself.))
Champion:
Mastodon Rider > War Mammoth (Role: Champion/powerhouse)

I think the Fortress faction was lovely faction.
Really worked good with my play style, sturdy units that could take a lot of damage Slow yes, but with the rune of speed they were just as fast as everyone else.
The huge issues (plural!) about the fortress faction was:
First of all, people don't think of Dwarves when thet hear the word: Fortress - they think of Wyverns, Lizards, Hydras. People were disappointed with the theme of the faction.
Second, you had to have a slow playstyle, you couldn't rush and your low lvl units weren't the best. the Tier one were useless and I personally only used it to defend my shooters (With the alternative upgrade they were imba. in defense). The only two fast units, the Bears and the Thanes, were strong, but often alone at the frontline - The berzerkers were weak, but yet underestimated, a good hit and some speed yes. Their tier 7 was imo the keeper of this faction. Slow, Sturdy, nasty attack still and fire shield
I can live without the faction, easily, but I would enjoy playing it again. It had a great feel and was very true to the concept. In HoMM6 they could bring it back with less dwarves and more Norse creatures - as one suggested on the first page Good idea, make it a little more savage, but with the same runic system that indicates intelligence and sophitsication
Creatures they had to keep were the Dragon because Ashan is build up around Dragons and the belief in them. They would also have to keep the Runic caster as they represent the belief and religion. The bear riders would also be good to have, but more savage and more aggressive Then I think the faction needs a flyer - the Thane could still be used, but as a heavy walker Sadly the norse Myth. lacks flyers - mostly eagles were mentioned.
EDIT: good ideas in the post above me nice pics aswell Love the troll and the rune forger Good idea!

You know what? replace the name from Fortress into Forge and get less Dwarves in the faction, and get the Technology themes and give the ferakin Fortress name to Lizard people. I know we have Nagas but it is water creatures not swamp creature!
Core
Guardsman --> Guardian
Shield, Dwarven Armor and a 1-H Axe.
Fire Launcher --> Lava Launcher
Dwarves with a Glass Cylinder on their back, and a Musket like gun with some kind of transparent plastic pipe connected to the Glass Cylinder, lore wise, you can say that the combination of Material and Rune Technology enable them to bring a liquid Lava into the container without breaking them and keep the Extreme temperature inside it.
War Bear --> Armored Bear
Yup the Golden Compass Polar Bear like Alcie said, without rider of course.
Elite
Flame Giant --> Thane
I like the Thane concept but making them teleporting all around the battle field is a bit out of place but considering there is no longer Arch Devil I think it might be work without problem with skill override.
Rune Warrior --> Rune Patriach
Dual Wielding Rune Enchanted Axe Dwarven Warrior.
Steam Tank --> Rune Tank
Ball & Chain Tank with solid steel as the body (providing this is a melee attacker). Good at castle siege. Rune Tank (the upgrade) will have 3 Flame Ball ammunition with 3 turn cooling down (The fire ball ammunition is not affected by ammunition cart).
Champion
Lava Serpent --> Salamander
Yeah you got the idea
OK, I screwed up, I suppose to have only 2 Dwarves on the line-up but I think it is good enough, it has technological feels on the faction and it keep the Fire Themes without breaking the rule.

All shall tremble before the might of the Dwarves and scatter like leaves on the wind! Especially those Nighon weaklings...
Dwarf Saying:
"The worth of a dwarf is measured by the length of his beard and the girth of his......................belt buckle"
But oh well, don't worry, NightTerror. Chances are, dwarves won't be making an appearance in H-VI at least. Like I said, we're only two years before the Day of Tears and Fire and the Death of Tuidhana. The expansion is going to be Sylvan and maybe Dungeon, and that's an ironclad fact, the golden rule, it's cast in stone and that's the end of it.

I think the champion unit could be the titan. I know it's from Greek mythology but I think it would look very cool with all the thunders and s**t. We could think of him as a kind of "Thor".

Forme the more factions the better! You can say that factions would then be only a reskin but you dont need to play as those and simply say ' There is only one faction'
The more factions, the more fans have their favorite faction ingame and the more people buy them. I HATE it when creatures disapear in a new game. When I played heroes 4 and 5 I was like: WHERE THE **** IS FORTRESS (H3 one)
Even if I hate dwarves I think they should be In even if they are only neutrals. Every HoMM creature has atleast one fan and so they should always be in.

Dwarves > Effeminate Pansies (AKA Elves). I say it's time for the Behemoth to make a comeback.
Fortress core units:
1- Stout Dwarf -> Battledwarf
2- Runesmith -> Runelord
3- Frost Wolf -> Fenrir
Fortress elite units:
1- Shieldmaiden -> Valkyrie
2- Fire Lizard -> Salamander
3- Behemoth -> Ancient Behemoth
Fortress champion unit:
1- Ilmatar -> Tempestarii

Between Dwarves, Mages and Sylvan, I pick Dwarfs
They almost had no role in H5 story, unlike Sylvan or Academy. However, if they created a new Dungeon or a new faction, I would prefer them to Fortress.
But just for curiosity, H5 had 8 factions and H6 includes Nagas, so what is the 10th race/action?
And please, Elvin, don't tell me that Ubihole is already thinking on the expansion before finishing the game

Quote: I never want to see a dwarf faction in ANY game I play in the future EVER again, simply I won't buy the game if they do this, not that they care, but I will be seriously pissed, and you don't want to meet eye to eye with me when i'm mad! I'm worse than ANY dwarf berserker by then.
I would actually love to see you like that Nightteror.
I would come to you and whisper silent names of the Dwarven units in to your ears :-P
But back to topic. Dwarves are as good as any other race. Just because there not so "Cool" because they don't have pointy ears and actually do not act as sissies doesn't mean there something less. They have there culture and give more sense to my then Academy. Which was only good in Heroes II. (Tolkien style)

Dwarf faction
Core: Shieldbearer/Clan Defender (wielding axe and shield), Fire Lizard/Salamander (an elemental lizard spitting globes of fire),
Polar Rider/Jarl
Elite: Yeti/Behemoth (heavy melee with frost powers), Battle Maiden/Valkyre OR Roc/Thunderbird (either will be a fast assault flyer), Runemaker/Runecrafter (spellcaster)
Champion: Iron Bull/Mighty Gorgon (a mechanical, fire-breathing bull)
So there you have it- Dwarf units (Shieldbearer, Ram Rider, Runemaker), fire units (Salamander and Iron Bull), ice units (Polar Rider and Yeti) a flyer (Valkyre/Roc), and a spellcaster (the Runemaker).
And it's alot more interesting than the Heroes 5 Fortress which had 6 (!) Dwarf units and a generic lvl 7 Dragon.
