Well yeah, if you have a plan that's been in motion for billions of years you can't expect to try to explain your purpose to every damned organic cycle, first it's probably futile, second it's pointless.
I believe that shepard was going to be the 'soul' of the human reaper.

Quote: the ending would have made sense if the Reapers killed organics because they make synthetics which would eventually replace organic life and prevent further evolution of life from happening
The ending would have made far more sense if the reapers assimilated synthetics because they can, and killed organics because of the chaos and threat they produce.
At first reapers were sinister and the entire "We ascend you to a greater existence" in ME2 made it sound like they wanted to shape our evolution along their will, something that goes against the right and the freedom of choice.
We did not know why the did that and for what reason but the threat was there.
ME2 tackled philosophical questions. If our bodies are just mere information, being liquefied and than being re made into another being would mean we would still be "Alive". Another is that an AI would consider humans mere data. They can be stored!
We would lose all the features that made us "Human",ie organic life is of different value to us compared to computers.
Sovereign in ME1 stated that they are free, independent and they are a hive intelligence. This goes against the points made in ME3 that they are being controlled by a converged conscience across all reapers. "Independent of each other" is in strict contradiction with the Catalyst. No reason is being given why the cycle of extinction would not work any longer.

I'm going to stick to the indoctrination theory, and just go with that people were upset, and Bioware chose a route to not spoil anything, but at the same time give the non-believers some 'food'. And I'm going to stick to that they want shepard to be the soul of the human reaper.

This game was awesome, minus the main plot.
I'm playing again as a Vanguard and currently not performing nearly as well I get shot a lot.

Vanguards are rambos. That's why they get shot a lot. If you don't survive, you lack a lot of luck or life.

I hate vanguards, if you see a vanguard in gold, you kick him/her asap. Jesus they do so much damage and have high durability, but the slightest mistake and they're dead on the other side of the map, and all that 'power' gets to their head, on gold you don't tend to worry about exp just survival (which is simple if you know how) but on the lower levels vanguards go down the most and have the most exp. The problem isn't the vanguard going down, it's the team's reaction, one of them will rush to save them then goes down, now there are two guys downed, this makes the 3rd guy go, !omfg I need to save them!, goes down half way there, me alone, holding the position Similar thing happens in LoL all the time, one fool gets caught out, so my entire team rush in one by one to try and save him.
Luckily no such issue in gold, no vanguards, ever.
Edit: I once saw a vanguard try to take down a brute, he got ****ed hard, as soon as he was saved, he decided to take on a banshee, it didn't end well

It just feels awkward. My squadmates got guns, my enemies got guns, and I'm running around with a shotgun and melee-based abilities. It kind of makes me feel like Captain America in the Avengers movie. Everybody is running around with lasers and I'm punching people in the face. It's so easy for everybody to target me.
I think I'm going start over as a soldier again and play around with the cryo ammo / concussive shot combo, and focus on the sniper rifle more.

I wanted to run a thought through you guys that I happened upon quite randomly, I was contemplating the garden of eden and the its fundementals and implication, when out of nowhere my mind turned to mass effect 3's ending, so I made a vague comparison between the two.
Ending Spoiler: So yeah the blue option is to give yourself up to god (reapers) unconditionally, in a way this appears to deprive you of free will, but if the action is made out of free will maybe 'tis not so. "You ascend"
And the red option, like god and the kid says, you will die. Which means that you will remain in the mortal realm ignorant of the implications of your decision, but sooner or later you will perish, again, and again if need be.
And the green option, is the decision to remain in paradise so to speak, though still in the mortal realm, your lifespan is indefinite. ('till judgement day) Free of pain, and disease.

Another free multiplayer DLC with initially (I think) 4 characters (12 more to be added), a new enemy (the collectors) and some map "remakes" with environmental hazards plus new gear is coming out on the 9th (same day as the new XCOM in the US.)

A very nice thought, Ivor, it gives you something to think about. Mass Effect has really got me into the thinking mode, especially the Reaper part.
It takes a whole endangered galaxy to unite sentient races... That really is sad, but the important thing is they actually united. The bad thing is that they needed so many bad things to actually start thinking and start caring. Or maybe they were united just because of survival? It really gives you something to think about, rather than shoot at something for the rest of the afternoon.
