i went with ashley the first few times, then on my isnanity biotic I warmed up to liara, SPOILER:
though when your ship gets grounded she tries to comfort me and I sneer at her to show her how crap my emotional integrity is. ( I apologise afterwards though, don't want to seem like an ingrate)
I did make a game through where Shepard is a total virgin ***hole, it was funny made his (spoiler) death more epicly tragic  .

@Noc: I saved Kaidan cuz he's my Biotic Bro.
Also I think it's what Ashley wanted. She got to redeem her family name, making her family members' future much brighter. It was very fitting.
@Darksy: Yeah me too... ME2 Vanguard is so IN YOUR FACE

I thought I'd use vanguard for insanity (With great strain I managed to do it, but the special ability the vanguard has is suicidal)
My favourite class is Infiltrator for ME2 and biotic for ME1 (they totally wrecked biotic in ME2 you can only use one ability at a time)

Sounds like you aren't spilling enough blood then .
Since you get a shield boost it works darn well even at insanity, provided you didn't charge into a group of Krogan battlemasters

For my Paragon femshep, I stayed true to Liara. She's just so adoreable and awesome at the same time.
On my renegade male I had sex with like every single squadmate in the game lol. Who needs sex ed when you have Mass Effect? >.>

It's very useful, and a very fun contrast to all the cover-hugger classes 
You check your surroundings, find lone enemies and charge right through their measly cover, blast the **** out of them, and then take their cover.
Also, like Darksy said, free shield boost when in danger is very nice.

And if you get the Geth shield boosters you don't even have to cover, just activate the boost and blast all the enemies away with your mighty shotgun

Is it only me who never reached Paragon or Renegade state during the whole 2 games? You have to behave like a irritating ***** for Renegade, and behave like a mere stupid for Paragon.

Sentinels are better for those kinda caveman tactics with their Tech Armor.
Vanguards go down pretty fast on Insanity. Need to keep moving, quick assaults and then back to cover.

Also depends who you brought in with your squads. Squishies like Mordin and Jack are No go for me, I would rather bring more artillery with Grunt and Legion

Very silly move by Bioware.
My Shep's pretty much a pure Paragon so it didn't really bother me... though I did have this cold blonde sniper Femshep that told Chakwas to get busy with her scalpels pretty fast...
