Good but not great.  The graphics and music are nice and it has one of the better campaigns in the series.  That said, the game is full of bugs, has a dull skill system, and introduced area control.

I'd give it a 7 out of 10.

@Magissia, my comment was not aimed at you & I started writing the post before you posted...it was a general statement on other people's & reviewers' comments too, just that graphics is nowhere near a priority for a strategy game for me (well it is called tbs) low priority to me means listing it last or not list it at all...the thing that bothers me is wrong priority of choosing where to focus the effort/expense to make the game great.

That's what alot of games are prioritizing now, graphics. Like FPS games, Far Cry was long and cool, Crysis was better graphics but shorter....so most games sacrifice length of game for graphics....you finish games lately in 2-3 days, I remember in the 80's and 90's it took you over a month, sometimes a few months to finish a game....

Nonetheless, Heroes is great cos you can play for hours and hours....

A lot of games weren't that long, but to compensate they were insanely hard (well, harder than what we're used to these days at least.)

EDIT: The original Far Cry was awesome. It came with a graphics card which was a nice bonus.
I still can't seem to find my copy though

Good point, I blame consoles for the reason games have become easy.....I mean Prince of Persia 1990 cross platform game....difficult! Prince of Persia 2010.....easy.

PC rules!
Playstation 3 sucks
Wii sucks
Xbox sucks

That's because games aren't meant for gamers anymore, but as cheap babysitters. It's like Hollywood movies you watch for mindless fun - even though the idea behind itis good, you'll feel at least a little disappointed or cheated because there's so much more there could have been. But of course, when the majority of players don't complain, why change anything?
If you want challenge, play games like Dark Souls or Demon's Souls.

Yeah, I would guess average age of the gamer has been decreasing a lot if you compare late 2000's with early 1990's - and with decreasing age comes decreasing mental capacity.

Doom and Quake were challenging FPS....

Another World and Flashback....by French company Delphine, now those were challenging....one split second miss of your keyboard key and you were toasted sometimes.....

I miss content. More castles, more artifacts, more spells. I realize this is due to financial difficulties and will be "fixed" in expansions, but as a stand alone game , HoMM 6 is just small.

I don't think there is a problem with the volume of content in this game. The campaigns provide 50+ hours of gameplay, it's more than other games' nowadays, definitely worth it's price. The bugs will be removed for free. If you can't live with them wait for the patch and only then buy the game.

Heroes 3 came out as a 'finished' game and then they gave out mappacks as expansions. 3DO gone bankrupt.
UBI published H6 as a solid game with a load of playing hours. Then they are going to publish expansions with new towns, new creatures, new artifacts, new maps, a lot of new contents. I'm OK with it.

ps.
I don't like Ubisoft, they have an awful customer support, but I'm arguing that H6 is a small game.

After another half a decade, people will say that Heroes is unknown outside a small secret society the member of which never openly admit that they play the game.
The ridiculousness of the "it's a small, niche product" claims is increasing in geometric progression with every next post...

I'm not saying it's small. I'm arguing about it's being small. It's a big game, both in playing hours and content, and I hope it's being sold in big numbers too.

I hope not. They have yet to do anything right, in my opinion.
We can still play the old games but they don't deserve a second chance they way they keep messing up.

In my honest opinion, H6 is an insanely bad snowty games. But okay, it got released nearly the same time as the Skyrim release, and well, let me put it this way: Heroes gets some serious ass-whoopin! Smashed to smithereenes.

The difference is that games like Serious Sam and Painkiller are honest in what they are trying to be. Old Arnie movies like Commando are the same type. You get what you are promised and thus don't feel cheated. Most games/movies look great on first glance, but later don't feel complete at all.

This is partly true. The average gaming age is currently increasing, actually, because the "first games generations" are growing up and continue to play as opposed to two decades back when adults didn't pick up the newer technology as quickly. What has changed, I think, is the definition of a gamer. Today, it is simply someone who spends a lot of time playing videogames, hence the term "casual gamer". Back then, a gamer was someone who looked for a thrill, a challenge, playing games was a hobby like reading books or playing chess. With the massive increase in videogame popularity, the money also shifted to the casual player market and obviously big companies look into that direction. It's not only nostalgia in me talking, but a lot of today's titles just don't have that substance.
When it's not the atmosphere, it's the story; when it's not the story, it's the gameplay; when it's not the gameplay, it's the UI...

Speaking of UIs

I want to kill the man who designed Skyrim's UI. And frankly, I don't get what all the fuzz is about it, it's not really that good.

You know what, I don't mind the new systems in the game that much. I'm perfectly okay with the new tier system, the new resource system, and I'm not happy about town screens, but they say they are coming, after some internet connectivity issues There is one thing and one thing only that makes me give this game AT BEST a 5.5/10.

The GOD SNOW SNOWING CONFLUX. First of all, this is clearly sugarcoated ubisoft DRM Bull Snow, and it's obvious. The game looses so much functionality without the conflux. I can do half the "new features that they praised the game for, not because these features actually require an internet connection, but because its meant to restrict pirating, OK. I can't gain dynasty points to spend later, I can't create heroes for Duel Mode, I can't do much of anything, and it's awful. There is no reason that almost any of the systems in the conflux have to be tied to the internet directly in any way. The entire system is completely unnecessary. Further, there are features in the offline version that would actually be nice to have in the online version to, like a small number a pre-made heroes.

Along with this comes the save games. Seriously the files don't even transfer. So I have to restart whatever game I was playing if I go on a trip, loose internet temporarily, or the servers are down just because I had been playing it in online "read non-gimped" mode, and if I re-establish a connection I can't take that file and make it a game in online mode. This is one of the infuriating things.

Additionally, despite the fact that according to the Facebook page, they haven't had the server up since the 8th, and i haven't been able to connect to the conflux since then either. This is mind bogglingly irritating. I'm not playing a gimped version of this game. The facebook page saying "don't worry you can still play in offline mode" is nothing but an insult. Initially I gave them the benefit of the doubt here, but the fact that there is an offline mode, and an online mode in and of itself a problem.
