H6 was a buggy glitchathon.
All the others were pretty carefully thought out for beta, at least.

H6 is the one I played the least, so for me it's clearly the worst of the whole serie.
Finished the campaigns and stopped playing it completely - didn't even bother installing the new patch since it brings nothing that will improve the fun factor of the game.

My judgement is based only on the beta but I'd have to say HOMM6 is the worst. And judging from the official forums the Conflux is down quite a lot during the holidays. Epic fail. The customers are being treated like crap when Ubisoft should be bending over backwards to try to keep the franchise they bought alive. Customer service drives a buisiness. Poor customer service drives customers from a business. Ubisoft is dropping the ball big time.

People have a short memory. 5 years ago Heroes 5, 3 months after release, had been an epic failure, with the SM-Dungeon, a game very much still in progress (Necro mechanics yet to be completely redone), loads of bugs, an unusable editor and no balancing to speak of.
In short, without the ToE addon (that wasn't even patched completely, after the Ubi/Nival fallout and 3.2 being delivered only inofficially a few months ago) HoMM 5 would have been a major failure.
Considering the fact that the first 5 games in the series are finished products while 6 is still missing major parts, addons and patches, the voting is comparing 5 apples with 1 orange.

Same. My least favorite of the entire series is H3, but I would never call it a "bad game".

Each of the Games has its pros and cons. And every Heroes game is in my opinion fun games. But the least fun Heroes Game is Heroes 1 or Heroes 4...
I voted this way:
Wich of the heroes games could i have some fun playing right now.
Heroes 1 because there where only few monsters, few artifacts, few of everything. (I know its the first game, and they had to start at someplace.) And the adventure map hero walks so damn slowly. Step, pause, step, pause, step, pause.... So annoying.
Heroes 4 because (The one i voted in the master post) no upgrades, very crappy graphics, and very crappy skills... Tier one to four only. Eerything was crap! Well, a few goodies such as the hero's apperance ind the combats where awesome.
And remember that H4 did have, and still have the best Map Editor of them all..

I don't understand why you vote Heroes 6? The skill system and the resource cutdown is awesome! Brings it to a whole new level of fun..
And the Uplay-Dunasty Weapons is quite fun to.

I voted Heroes6 of course!
It is the least playable of them all
i easily get bored playing it
skirmish or campaign , doesnt matter
loads of bugs contribute to a feeling
It has the weirdest units comparing to other HoMM games
a big step away from mythological HoMM core
made up units like Tormentors, Breeders, Wazimazi or whatever its called and etc.
Unique Atmosphere is not in the game anymore
starting with townscreens , poor interface
unbelievably stupid dialogues with silly "jokes"
Heroes 6 loses in comparsion to other HoMM games, at least in my opinion

Heroes 6, but not because of bugs, or unbalanced units. All this thing will be fixed in time. The reason heroes 6 is the worst is because they removed some thing from the game that where in all previous heroes game or made them more simple. They improved some aspects of game, but on the other hand, removed or made others too much simple (4 resources, no town management, shared pool when recruiting...). I hope that modes can fix this in future, or maybe expansions will change the direction of game (trying to make fast multiplayer game).
Anyway, I am generaly happy that heroes is still alive after so many years, even if i don't like them. But also I am little said that from great heroes 5 and direction there were going, they change it for heroes 6.

Are you seriously saying it's totally alright to release unfinished games and pretentiously claim it is wrong for people to judge it "because they aren't done with it yet" ? If they don't want this kind of negative responce, they shouldn't have released an unfinished game. End of. The same goes for HV, for the record.
And even if you don't take bugs and other unfinished into account, there are plenty of design choices to rip on.

While I don't really think the voting makes sense at this point, Heroes 4 still gets my vote. Even as much as I dislike Heroes 6 in its current state, it's still better than Heroes 4.

100% agree with JJ. judging the game until it is all tuned out is like judging an album only after listening to 3 tracks.
And Moonlith since releasing an unfinished heroes is some what of a tradition since H4 I will not call Heroes 6 names until I know for sure that it will not improve. I do not say I love that game, I see many of its downsides, but I also see its potential.
H5 in my eyes never had that much potential like H6. It was to much of a H3 clone.
My vote goes to H4. It is the game I have played the less, gave me the worst game feeling and experience and I did never find my way to like it. From all it's enthusiastic players I have lerned that it is not a bad game. But as the common saying in my region goes: "H4 is a good game, but a very bad heroes."

None. Such comparisons are difficult in the first place because, objectively speaking, Heroes I will always be worse than Heroes II and Heroes III and most likely than the rest but without Heroes I there would have been no other Heroes, so... The criteria are what matters so if the poll is constructed like "Which is the worst Heroes taking into account X, Y, Z", then it will be easier to give a good answer.
So, given the above, my ranking would be:
- worst music goes for Heroes VI - not bad on its own but too few original themes and what's original is usually boring;
- worst graphics, creature design, adventure map design, etc. - Heroes V by far, I can barely stand it;
- worst balance between the factions - Heroes I & II, followed by Heroes IV;
- worst balance between skills and spell schools (+ individual spells) - Heroes III;
- worst campaign - Heroes V, uncontested;
- worst map editor - haven't tried the Heroes VI one yet, so I'll go for the Heroes V one;
- worst technical state - the initial release of Heroes V, followed closely by Heroes VI;
- worst marketing and PR - Heroes VI, uncontested;
- the least content at release - Heroes VI;
- worst post-release support - a really hard fight between Heroes V and Heroes VI but Heroes V wins (very, very slightly).

I probably would say H6, but I haven't played it so I spare to judge it. Otherwise, I can give no "winner" in this. maybe heroes 1 - but heroes 1 was a great game for its time!

Heroes 1 is the most simple of the 6 installments, hence why it *technically* is the worst game. I still won't vote for it though. It was the very first game, hence it's status as being the "worst" is excusable
