"Well now, Kalthak, I was hoping we could skip these formalities just this once, you know, for old times sake? No? Alright, fine. I know just about every song in the human and elven languages, I know five or six in the in the Durok language and have them memorized, as well as nearly perfected in the modern Durok accent. Human and elven songs are child's play compared to your language for a warm blood, my friend. Trying to get my age out of me is not going to work, but I'll tell you that I've been playing the Lyre since I was two and a half years old. I know how to manipulate people into feeling how I want them to feel, and that is usually happy. For instance," He broke off of his practiced rant, "Davian, for old times sake, you owe me nothing from the gambling tables."
When Davian didn't react immediately, Simon turned back to Kalthak and told him, "The man is just in shock. That was a rather hefty debt... Part of the reason I decided it would be opportune to leave last time on the island I did. He's happy on the inside. But, if you want a better example, take the captain laying on the ground over there. I played on his greed until he did what I wanted." Simon gave Kalthak a confidant smile, "The same works with crowds. I can sense the direction my audience is leaning, and steer them towards the emotions that I want them to feel. I can play, sing and dance at the same time. I can also juggle, do acrobatics, alone or with a partner, tell jokes, improvise and pick any lock that you throw in front of me. In combat, I'm the luckiest little son of a gun and its mother that you will ever meet, dead or alive. I'm a good shot, and a decent blade. Despite my reputation for leaving, I'll stay if you need me. I'll also work for cheep. Not to contradict everything I just said, but I have to get out of here..." He looked back at the still comatose captain, "As soon as possible, so how does 100 silver a week sound?"

"Haha, Kalthak, my friend, never. Ever. Entirely to entertaining to watch those that can grow beards pull them out. Deals with the shaving problem, you know. Now, if you'll excuse me." Simon stood up, shaking to finish the contract with Kalthak. He walked up behind Davian, leaned in close and muttered something into the first mate's ear, "I was kidding about canceling that debt you know, Davian."
Simon walked out of that bar wearing his black eye and cracked ribs like a badge of honor.

Eduardo smiled.
"I was talking about something else, my friend. I was trying to make clear that I want to be payed in Shalak florins. As that would be usefull in every port, in contrast to Termingnan shillings or Nerbul pesos."
He took a large gulp from his ale.
"I will take the equivalent the pay you promised the vulture a moment ago," he said referring to the doctor Davaian talked to, "plus 5% of the plunder. I will probably have some things to discuss with your capitan, but if you can promise me this I am your man."
Eduardo offered his hand to the first mate.

One board the actual ship, Simon was walking around, greeting anyone who he walked passed and recognized. The ones who were sober enough to recognize him hailed cheerfully back, and put a warding hand over their coin pockets.
"Ho, Jamis! How goes it Florin? My good mate Mathew! Are the fish still biting? Heard you're getting some help in the kitchen this voyage."
"Well, I-i guess I am... Why are you here? I-if you don't mind me askin'" The cooks voice sounded slightly nervous.
"You're in hell, my friend. Save me some of the good stuff!" Simon moved through the ship in this fashion, stopping occasionally to chat with some of his better friends before moving on. At one cabin he stopped, pausing to listen briefly at the door. Unexpectedly, it swung open, catching Simon fully on the ear. "Ow, son of a... At least give me some warning next time Alaric!"
"When you stop trying to listen in on me and who I'm with you old pervert." The thin human retorted.
"Oh come on now Alaric, we both know that only you and your bro-" Simon stopped talking when he saw the face of a young girl poking out of the bed covers. His face was blank for a few seconds, and then he was crushing Alaric in a tight, fatherly bear hug. "My boy is all grown up! I'm so proud of you!"
"Need... air..." Alaric wheezed from somewhere in Simon's outfit.
"Sorry," Simon released the young man, wiping a tear from his eye, "got a little carried away. I just can't believe that you finally listened to me is all."
"..."
"Why are you looking at me like that?" Simon asked him, slightly annoyed.
"Well, you were always telling me to never... well... um..., ..., .., ." Alaric was obviously embarrassed by the subject.
"Oh yes. Sorry, mistook you for your brother for a second there." Simon firmly whacked Alaric upside the head, posing to look like a scolding father. "What did I tell you about sleeping with the dock girls, boy? It's a wonder you don't get yourself some kind of tropical disease!" By now the crew had started to gather around. Some of them snickered as Simon launched himself into a well rehearsed rant that many of the crew could repeat by heart. Alaric just sighed, closing the door behind him. Simon didn't stop ranting, even when the girl stormed out of the room, fully dressed and livid. He paused slightly when she slapped him across the face, bringing catcalls and whistles from the crowd, but the pause was only temporary. In fact, he only started to rant louder, to make sure that Alaric could hear him. This went on for ten minutes, ending with the girl storming away, somewhat pale, and Alaric coming out of his room, smiling and about to laugh.
"Ok, ok. I surrender dad. You win. Now, are you going to adopt me and make this relationship real, or-"
Simon broke off of the rant, slightly pale himself. "Oh no no no, God no. You couldn't pay me to adopt a disappointment son like you."
"And you couldn't pay for me to be your son."
"So it's agreed then?" Simon held out his hand.
Alaric shook it soundly, "I would say so." The pirates cheered as the traditional play between the two was finished. Everyone got back to work. "Hey, Simon. About my brother-"
"Well I'm terribly sorry, but it seems that I have just got to go now. Some terribly pressing business you understand. Besides your brother scares me a little bit. So then this is-" Simon had turned to walk away.
"He's dead, Simon."
Simon stopped "... what?" his voice had lost all of its mirth.
"He was killed at sea. Last of the raids we partook in." Alaric's head was hanging down. "There were Duroks on board. Garth... He stood in front of me. Protecting me so that I would have a clear shot at the captain... He killed two of his attackers before he was slain."
"Alaric..." Simon was struggling to keep his voice from cracking. "Garth was a good man. One of the best damn berzerkers that I've ever seen. Tall, strong, reliable. These labels don't do him justice. He was a good friend, and the only man I would trust to stand with me against death itself. I guess he did at that, throwing himself into danger to protect the crew... the brother that he cared about. For everything I have said, I considered him to be as my brother and my son." He turned his head back towards Alaric. "If there is anything I could do, or anything that you need, just ask, my friend."
Alaric just nodded numbly.
Simon continued on down the ship. He muttered to himself "Welcome home, Simon. Things will always change on you, and there was nothing you could have done, nothing that staying here would have accomplished. You did not abandon them, Simon. Stop thinking like that."
"Hey, Simon!" A cry from the crows nest came down to him.
"Ho Jarod! Is that you?"
"Yes sir, it is!" A slightly bearded face popped out from the side of the crows nest. "How goes it, lord bard?!"
"Well, Jarod! How are the dreams?!"
"Still there, Simon, but now I have a ring that does stuff as well as the giant black cat!" The voice sounded slightly miserable.
"Lay of the rum, Jarod! You know it makes you see things that aren't real!"
"But they are real! And so are the cars and, and the planes and the ga-so-line powered ships and... I haven't had rum for the last two weeks!" The last part was almost a whine.
"Sure you didn't!"
"I'm not lying! We ran out two weeks ago while at sea!"
"Ran out of rum? I've got my job cut out for me then... Well, then I don't know what it is then, Jarod. I hope that it isn't Mat's cooking!"
A small cry of protest and some laughter followed his statement.
"Well, Jarod. Just ignore them for a while longer. come to me if the dreams get too bad, alright?!"
"Sure, thank's Simon!"
And so Simon's mood changed back to it's usual ungodly cheerful state as he worked his way to the captains quarters. When he finally arrived at the door, Simon knocked five times and yelled out, "Arcturus! Open up! I bear news from the port!" Simon's voice sounded exactly like Davian's

"The captain isn't here yet, Simon. He's gone off with Nurgunnen and Bellerusse into the port to see an old sage about some Durok relic." a soft yet strong voice said to him behind his back. Simon turned around to see a young beautiful elf woman leaning against a wall who he remembered to be Lianna. She had black hair, olive skin, and was dressed much like the other pirates. She let go of the hilt of her sheathed cutlass and said, "It's been a while, Simon. I hope you remember me, because I certainly remember you."
She then walked towards him and placed her hands oh her hips. She smiled and then slapped him on the cheek. Hard. "I cannot believe you would come back here after what you did! Leaving us all while we were in the dumps simply because you felt like it!? I thought you valued us and were really part of the crew! But no, you just want to go from ship to ship as you please, and woman to woman, no doubt! Davaian and everyone else may forgive you, but I certainly won't! You better watch your step, Simon. If you're lucky you'll by a solemn, grueling man by the time I'm done with you."

Simon became visibly uncomfortable. "Um... Well... High there Lianna. I didn't know that you were still here. Oh God... isn't this a bit awkward... Lianna, please trust me when I say this. I have never stopped missing your smiling face, it was enough to keep my spirits high on the worst of days, and enough to bring the stars out of the sky on our nights. Please, believe me that my leaving was not my idea. I would never have left you or the crew if it were my choice... I did tell you I would find you again, didn't I? Well," He took a step back so that she could get a good look at him, "here I am! Flesh and blood, with not a digit or ligament missing. Still perfect for you, my love."

Geralt walked through the docks. Pier 12. This must be it. He was wearing a long leather coat on top of his garments. The knee high leather boots he wore were cleanly polished. His weapons were resting in their holders, leaving very little doubt of their user's skill. However his eyes were very disturbing. He was holding his chest in the left arm, his rucksack in the right. He climbed the gangplank onto the ship.
- Who is in charge here?- He asked.

"Ahahahaha!" Lianna laughed. "You never learn do you?"
Quartermaster Hervin came around the corner and then said, "Lianna! Why aren't you with the others loading the ship? If you aren't over there helping, Arcturus is going to either have your a$$ or mine, and I know for a fact he sure as hell isn't going to have mine over yours!"
A nearby pirate carrying a crate of ammunition snickered at the comment and then said, "Hervin, we got a doctor out there wishing to see the man in charge, which is you right now. I think Davaian scraped that barnacle off this port here."
"Alright, I'll be there." replied Hervin as he rushed off to the gangplank.

"When he is finished consulting the sage here on this godforsaken island. That should be in about an hour or less." replied Hervin. "However, I am to direct you to your cabin and working quarters. Follow me."
Hervin led Geralt down under the deck into a dark roomy room. "This is where you'll be working primarily. We'll provide more lighting as soon as possible. I'm sure there are plenty of cabinets here with plenty of medical supplies. Your sleeping quarters are next door. It's a little small, but its better than sleeping in the hammocks. Feel free to situate yourself accordingly. If you need assistance, just pull one of the random scurrying men out and order him to help. Heck, if you need, go find and make yourself an assistant. In fact, I encourage it. Anyways, I have to head back up top to deal with whatever problem Simon is likely to cause. Bye."
