- Though most see Durok as savages, however they have knowledge far more powerfull than any of the human empires. I've seen their medicine men. Studied them. Learned their techniques. I am also one of the few, and I dare to guess that I in fact, am the only one who was allowed to learn their secrets.- Said Geralt.- Also, I've noticed that there are rats in the vessel. I want some of them captured for my latest experiment.
The captain looked questionably at Geralt.
- Do you really think that I'll test my work on sailors? I usually use pigs as their anatomy is similiar to ours, however my resources are cut short, so rats will have to do. I want them as soon as possible. As for the scheduled stops.- He approached the map and pointed at three islands nearby eachother.- This chain would be the first stop. Each island houses very different fauna and flora which is very strange indeed, however I won't start a lecture about it. Each island has reagents that I require. The mixtures that I make from them will help improve the health of the crew, not to mention other... Enhancements.

"Our course does not take us onto the treasure fleet's route as they tend to stay far away from the Maelstrom." replied Arcturus to Eduardo. "The only ones around there are Tuletan warvessels, which carry about as much valuable goods as Nurgunnen, which is none. When this is over, we can hunt for more treasure ships."

He then said to Geralt, "Of course, feel free to take all the rats you need. If you need an assistant, just pull a sleeping pirate off his a$$ and make him do it. If he questions you, then just report him to me and I'll have Nurgunnen take care of him."

"Oh, I beg to differ, capitan. As a cavalier, I may not know of shippingroutes. But I do know plenty of profitting of politics and war. Those ships don't carry a lot of gold, coin or tradegood, granted. But those ships do carry plenty gunpowder, cannons and shipbalistas. And seeing how the Nerbul aren't as hard on us pirates, they buy captured warships from us. In fact I've served on a crew a few years back and we've made a pretty good deal of selling the Nerbul captured warships. We only need to make sure that they do not find out we're selling them their own ships. Which should be possible. We could even hire ourselves out to some other empire, who would not mind occupying Nerbul territory. There's plenty coin to make, even in those waters, if you're brave and creative enough."

"Nerbulians? Who said anything about them? They have a very limited presence in those wild waters. I believe you confused them with the Tuletan Empire. No matter, what you say is true. However, we will need all hands on deck on our trip into the Maelstrom and cannot risk getting another one to take care of." replied Arcturus.

And seeing how different capitans want different things, I'd rather you tell me what you want to see. Other than you wanting to see it seven times a day."
Eduardo picked at his teeth again and fished out a small wad of gum he shot away.

"Kalthak, please!" Simon begged. "I didn't want anything to happen! For five of the last seven months, I have been looking for clues about your family! I called in all the debts and friends I had to get even this much, and your sister said that she found me! Please, talk to me! Let me know what is wrong." Simon reached over and touched Kalthak's shoulder. "Don't leave me in the dark, friend. Please."

"I... No. I didn't do enough. I was so close, Kalthak. I could feel it. I ran out of resources, I ran out of time and I ran out of friends, but I know that if I had gone just a little bit farther, found just one more lead... I could have found... D@mn it all!" Simon slammed his fist against the table, jiggling Kalthak's plate. "Why must I always get so close before I fail." He spat. "Why must I lose so much to gain so little?" Slowly, he unclenched his fist.

Putting his head between his hands, Simon leaned against the table. "Why must I always fail those that I care about the most." He wispered.

"Thank you, Kalthak." Simon's stomach growled rather loudly at that point. "Um..." Simon looked sort of embarrassed. "Sorry about that... I know it kills the mood and everything, but, well, you wouldn't happen to have any extra food, do you? I've been skipping rather a few meals lately and, well..."

Kalthak smiled and shoved over a plate of dried meat and a bottle of grog. "No vegetables I'm afraid, my friend, but I am sure this will do. You can have some grog to wash it down as well."

"Ha! Vegetables. You know, I never met a carrot that I actually liked. But I'll pass on the grog." Simon pulled out his own wine skin. "I've got all I need right here. Thank you, friend Kalthak, my stomach wouldn't let me get to sleep." He took a small handful of the meat and handed the rest back.

"What, I never claimed to eat lots of meat." Simon answered Kalthak's questioning look. "And your body naturally needs more than mine. Not to call you fat or anything..." He gave a contented sigh. "Welcome home, Simon." He patted Kalthak's shoulder again. "Welcome home indeed."

Eduardo left the Captain's quarters first. The other officers did not seem to be just ready to leave yet. No doubt they had something else to discuss and they did not particularly mind him not hearing. Eduardo was used to it, his haughty cavalier attitude rubbed many the wrong way.
He entered the kitchen to find the cook sleeping beneath a pile of of his implements. Eduardo saw a sausage hanging from one of the beams. He did not bother waking the cook up and just grabbed a knife and the sausage and made his way to the deck.
Once there he sat himself down on the stairs leading to the helm. Cutting of slices of the sausage, he ate enjoying the glow of the moon.

Geralt exited the room. He soon found two loitering sailors.
- You two, go and fetch me some rats.
- Why, doctor?
- Don't ask me stupid questions and I won't have to lie to you. Do as you are told and I won't tell the captain of your disobidience. Now go!- the two sailors quickly departed. Geralt went back to his quarters. The plant extract should be ready by now. He checked the vial with it, poured it into nine smaller vials and scribbled some notes in his antidote journal then looked up in his supplies. He picked up a jar with a large black toad in a brownish liquid and added a few drops of it to the first one. It was labeled "sample nr1". He then proceeded to add last components to other samples of the brew.

Kalthack had drunk himself slowly into sleep again. Simon finished off the small amount of meat on the plate and took another drink of water from his wineskin. He hadn't been able to afford wine for the last five days. No doubt Kalthak had known that by smell, but he hadn't said anything about it, respectfully leaving Simon to his own problems.

Simon patted the slumbering Durok on the back two more times before standing to go back to his own room and get some sleep himself. On his way back, Simon spotted that man who had been talking to Davian and Kalthak in the port, staring out to sea eating a sausage. Simon wondered what his name was... And what his job was.

He moved towards the man to talk. Simon liked to know who he was working with.
