*raises hand*
You don't really need to speculate wildly on what effects sex ed would have on kids... I mean me and Jaba both had it at the same age.
Quote: The answer is yes, but lets face it, at that age it is not the main interest, introducing sex ed ensures that every child in school will discuss sex wihtout a doubt
THE YOUNGSTERS WILL DISCUSS SEX?! HOW EVIL WE MUST-no wait a second is that really that bad?
"Without a doubt" hahaha... I assure you, we played football and card games after sex-ed... not share our sexual adventures.
Quote: telling kids not to do sex will increase curiousity and probably result in many of them trying it out because they were told not to
No proper sex-ed will ever tell them not to have sex. It forbids NOTHING, it simply informs on what is safe and isn't safe, and how things work. This has been said many times already.
Quote: - Open discussion amongst kids on the subject will encourage sexual behavior and will introduce peer pressure hence place young kids in a situation where its either you're doing it or you're not cool.
Yeah but then again the sexual harassment panda might come along and make them change their mind. Oh sorry I'm just assuming things, like you.
We had sex-ed, we didn't talk about it all the time. Like you said, it wasn't really the main interest at that time.
Can't say I wasn't interested already though. I mean... boobs didn't magically start existing when the teacher told me about them.

I remember waking up in the early hours as a child with an unquenchable lust (around 7-8 years old).
What on earth is awkwards about parents telling their children about 'the birds n' the bees'?

There is nothing wrong with parents teaching their own children about the 'birds and the bees'. They are one's who should be doing it. Not a school with its own agenda.
Okay I will give you an example of what I mean. In my brother's class for example, the girls were encouraged to give boy's oral sex rather than ... well you know what I mean ..... I mean WHF!!!!! Obviously not there an then!!! But to do that rather than unprotected or vaginal sex. Which is utter stupidity as they never mentioned the boys using a condom for oral.
If sex education is also about responsibility .... where the hell was that when informing 11/12 year olds of the above? And this was the standard British Sex Education.
So yes, under those circumstances I think having the parents educate their child is by far the better idea. As you will have control or knowledge of what these schools are educating your children of.

Well... how 'bout gym class?
I had a gym teacher that called the boys that were too slow "fat toads" and gave all the boys that he knew played hockey the highest grade.
Not to mention the horror of showers, if you wanna talk sexual threats THAT'S where you need to go. I know many a students that don't dare shower after gym class because of many things. Like being the last into puberty... being fat... etc.
Best if parents handle the physical exercise, 'lest the children's self-esteem get totally ****ed up.
EDIT:
Quote: I mean WHF!!!!!
*checks urban dictionary*
pronounced "woof," WHF stands for "weathered homo face." Generally seen driving a Subaru (lesbaru) and referring to her cats as "children.
"Damn, our oceanography professor has a WHF"

Well ok.

Well. I read it a couple of times.
So my impression is they are advising girls to give a BJ rather than have unprotected or vaginal sex. Said your brother? Without advising to use a condom in that case as well. Said your brother?
So what's your problem EXACTLY?

I presume that Meroe means that some teachers teach wrong and therefore the parents should handle it?
That's a risk you take in any subject really, like I mentioned with my good ol' gym teacher.

The teachers teach just fine, the material they are required to teach is the problem, I think what Meroe meant.
I've enquired into this matter and I found out that parents here in england have a choice whether they wish their children to be taught sex ed.

If my kids were taught that Adolf Hitler was one of the Founding Fathers then I would be much happier if they didn't learn "History" at all in that school.
However History isn't a bad subject, in fact it's a great subject! But like all subjects it has to be taught in a proper way, with correct facts and without forcing ideas upon the children. (ie. oral sex instead of vaginal sex.)
Giving ideas about safety is perfectly all right though.
@smithey
What are you talking about?
And if that's the case, then all that needs to be done is to get the Sex-Ed fixed.
Can't be that hard.

@Smithey: Oh so you had sex-ed? Didn't catch that.
Well still, the fact that you had crap sex-ed shouldn't really make others not able to have good sex-ed should it?
Improve the teachers then. Easier said than done I know, but I think it's a better start than just banning the sex-ed entirely in schools.
It's not the subject's fault.
EDIT:
Wait so all those things you wrote about sex-ed making kids talk about sex all the time and stuff were from personal experience?
