YEEEESSSSS!! (The Witcher 2)
Who's ******* HYPED?!
Alpha build Gameplay/Presentation
This is going to be epic. I just hope they'll remake the battlesystem a bit, maybe add a block system, go for a bit more Action-RPG than just RPG.
But hey... it's just Alpha. and if anyone thinks the voices in the vid sucks, well they do... but this is leaked material and the ones who did the voices are just random people at the company
Quicktime events are overused these days, but at least here it doesn't look like you die instantly if you fail a button press, the action still goes on, which I love.
Most of us didn't play The Witcher for the combat anyway, we played it for the epic storyline, the many choices to be made, the Dark Atmosphere!
Oh and if I'm not mistaken... I may have spotted a female without megaboobs! Now that's progress!

Doesn't seem that awesome besides the graphics, but then, what do they have except graphics these days?

True, the video isn't that revolutionary, but I played the first game and thus my HYPE Meter is bursting through the roof, I know what these guys can do.
Plus, this is, as I said, an Alpha build. A leaked one too.
EDIT: Umm just totally unrelevant but Death... do you like anything? Not just about the game, I mean... about everything, this world. Do you like anything?

I don't like overhyped things that bring nothing revolutionary new, and thus with my deduction, they should not be hyped so much either.
Consider it the "movie-sequel-syndrome" applied on other things, because we all know people hate sequels, and I definitely usually don't, so you can say I have the complemental (inverted) mindset.

I watched that one too, that is a showoff video. And not a leak! Huge difference, you do have eyes don't you?

@Death: Oh... guess that makes sense.
Anyway, I don't care if it's not revolutionary. If they refine the stuff that made the first game great it'll satisfy me, greatly.
I do like new stuff though, and the improved graphics and the new enviromental system is something I'm really looking forward too.
Most of all I'm looking forward to yet another adventure with Geralt. Do you ever read books Death? They ain't all that revolutionary are they? Just the same old letters stacked upon each other right?
@Del_Diablo: I had my doubts about it being a leak too. I think it's a leaked show-off video
Still, the important thing to notice is that it's Alpha. We probably haven't seen nothing yet.

Well it's the context that matters -- or else I would claim that "all games are just a bunch of pixels" which would be more appropriate for your analogy

Heh, agreed.
Anyway, my point: a game's storyline can be innovative.
But yeah, I can't really imagine you seeing anything that is truly awesome from your point of view, I guess you'd have to experience the first game to be as hyped as I am.
Personally I think the enviromental kills will be a nice addition, Moar Action-RPG for Adrius.

@Del_Diablo:
This is what one of the members of CD Project RED (Witcher developer) said on the official forums about the video:
"1. Does the leaked video show final or close to final product quality?
As Adam (CD Projekt RED CEO) noted in our response to the leak, the video was created using a very early alpha version of The Witcher 2 and therefore does not represent the final quality of the game in any way. Basically, the video was created six months ago to show the game to the potential publishers, and a lot has changed since that time. Moreover, the movie does not even touch the main aspect of the game, which is it’s story. We put all our efforts into making the story even more exciting and captivating, giving our fans exactly what they expect."
So yeah, according to them it was a show-off vid for the publishers.

I'm happy for you since I enjoyed the Witcher but with the success of the first, it's not like this was on the verge of never happening. I'd be really ******* HYPED if we got an original-team Baldur's Gate 3 or Legacy of Kain sequel in the pipeline.

Actually, the remake of the first game called Rise of the White Wolf was cancelled due to financial problems, the team then said that they would focus their remaining resources on the sequel. I was worried that the money wouldn't be enough to support the sequel.
Damn financial crisis... it was close to killing off many good developers...
That is why this makes me so glad.

Whoops, sorry, my mistake. I assumed they just cancelled it to focus their team on the sequel, not because of finance. That does cast a bit of a strange downer on things, since I heard its revenue broke even and managed to triple its development costs.

I bought the first one just a few weeks ago, and I've been occupied with other stuff to play it much, but with what I've played I'm impressed with it. Usually manual melee fighting can become kind of a drag, but they have a nice system in the Witcher. It's nice to see they're still making a 2nd one. I think it extends beyond the recession; MMO's are the games that turn over solid long-term profit, so RPG's like this don't have the appeal to companies that they once did. Baldur's Gate 2 remains my favorite RPG, so I'd eagerly play the 3rd one even though it would made by a whole different company and crew.

HOLY ****ING ****! I'm so glad they're making a 2nd one. This game was b-e-a-utiful!
And thumbs down on having more action! The combination of fighting and plot was wonderfully balanced in this game. The designers succeeded in making me fall in love with the world. The Witcher is how RPG's were meant to be; really hit the spot for me.

With more action I meant making the fighting system more stylish and less of just the "click-when-flaming-sword-appears". Not to say I didn't enjoy it.
In one of the preview vids of The Rise of The White Wolf they showed a counter-system that required precise timing. I really liked that. And the the new enviromental system also seems to open up more possibilities in combat.
See I want success in combat to be based on something more than just your stats being higher than your opponent, or your sword being a bit shinier.
Being able to win because of your good reflexes and timing is much more satisfying imo. I'm not saying they should turn the Witcher into an action game, hell no, but it would be nice to see more skills that require a bit more effort from the player to pull off.
They already had stuff like that in the first game, like the dodge/pirouette move, but I never really felt the need to use them. I usually just drank the appropriate potion, rushed in and owned. Fun but it can be developed.

I'm lazy and didn't have a very strong sword build in my game anyway I jacked up my stamina and intelligence, got a really fast endurance regeneration, and went to level 4 in the Aard and Igni. With Tawny Owl + Maribor Forest potions I went through the entire last map without drawing my sword except for the last battle.
But yea, more is always a better. I'm a sucker for having a ton of options.

Such RPGs where you just walk around talking to people and doing random stuff are boring.
Also, Assassins of Kings. Does that mean they assassin kings or they are kings' assassins?

Right, tell me what you like in RPGs instead, and then I'll answer.

*SPOILER FIRST WITCHER GAME*
Dunno, but in the Outro of the first Witcher game an assassin tries to kill the king, might have something to do with that. If I remember correctly the assassin had Witcher eyes, but his fighting style was not really "witchy". He might've been one of Salamandra's Witcher experiments.

Deep character relationships, deep unique plot and more third than first person story-telling.

Then I bet you'd love the Witcher.
Note though that you are Geralt, which equals first person storytelling, but I'm sure you'd be able to look past that in favour of deep character relationships and plot.
