The lack of conclusive ending is intended and I highly doubt that the story will be further developed before the next Witcher. It's really somewhat irritating to go through all the intrigues and twists just to be told "OK, you may want to see all this finished but now sit down, we'll proceed later... much later probably" but this is neither the first such sequel, nor it will be the last. It may lack delicacy but otherwise it's hardly something unseen.

I didn't really mean a definite ending to the story... more like a summary of choices and consequences throughout the game, as usual in cRPGs. Witcher 1 had one... why can't the 2nd one? Also, no ending cinematics, I consider this a rather crappy method of ending a game (just a scene of Geralt walking away, wtf?)

Ah, in this case yes, such an ending would be nice, particularly an outro cinematic. As for the choices - they kind of present the consequences throughout the game via these "comics" animations - for example whether you kill Henselt or leave him alive with the respective "general" outcome is shown at the end of Act II if I remember correctly.

actually those are Geralt's commentaries, I think. They were in W1 too My only explanation is that CDP run out of funds and rushed the game. That would explain the horrible third act.

Know what ya mean... at the end of The Witcher 1 I just stared at the credits thinking "Wow... what a game".

The Witcher 2 trumps The Witcher 1 on so many areas yet they messed up the ending... I mean it sure leaves an open way for a sequel but still... a proper ending leaves a much better aftertaste...

Also, Witcher 1 at least had SOME space for you to test the best weapons and armor on.

In W2, you get the best tools, and the game ends 5 mins later. What a tease.

Yes but the idea is the same. What we are lacking in the second Witcher is some "neutral narrator" who explains what's what in the end. It could be intentional though, after all nothing really finishes and too much things remain in motion to make a summary. Hell, it's not even 100% certain that Nilfgaard has indeed invaded the Northern Kingdoms again, it all might be someone's grand deception (although I rather doubt it).
By the way the thing with the second Nilfgaard invasion is a bit weak in my opinion. After the Battle of Brena (correctly - the Battle of the Old As*es ) and the whole large-scale campaign prior to it the empire is seriously weakened and hardly able to repeat its invasion so soon - at least according to the books.
And do you think that the murder of King Vizimir is Letho's crew work as well?

This could be an interesting opportunity for CDP to start mixing their lore with Sapkowski's original ideas, esp. since it's never unveiled who it was (except that it's pointed out Philippa Eilhart arranged the assassination).

As for Nilfgaard, well yes it's weakened, but so are the Northern kingdoms, and while they engaged in a wars with each other, Nilfgaard remained united and probably quickly regained strength. I always considered the defeat of Nilfgaard a weak point of Witcher's plot (the books), it would be so much more interesting if the world fell to Emhyr's invasion.

edit: for anybody interested: after you finish Dark mode, there's a screen about how cool you are for doing this AND it also contains a sentence about "upcoming expansions" so - I guess W2 will still see some polish.

Hopefully! Some content (esp. new quests and locations) are what I hope for.

See for yourself

Just remembered a few days ago that I completely forgot about this game.

So, as much as it pains me to ask, do any of you despicable powergamers have a tip about defeating Letho?

I didn't put any points in signs or alchemy. The most useful tactic I've found so far is running and tumbling around for 20 ****ing seconds waiting for his Shield of Gayness to wear off and dodging all the ranged spam he's farting at me, and then Aarding him, getting two or three right clicks at him and tumbling away.

Which fails because, at times, Geralt decides it's far more manly to remain in place and wave his sword through the air instead of going after the knocked back arsehole (holding "w" in a desperate attempt to make Geralt move just makes him scoff at me in disgust). Which of course results in a) enemy aard + AIDS grenade, b) enemy aard + shield of gayness or c) sudden death by the bleeding effect of Letho's Quentin Tarantino Sword Of You Are Now A Ketchup Fountain.

Another thing I tried was going eye to eye with him - my fatigue regeneration seems to be just enough to be able to block his every attack and get a right click in between - but the Gay is strong in this one, as he then merrily aards me across the room like a Yoda on steroids and casts the shield which returns us to what I wrote above.

I even tried the Yrden, even after swearing I'll never use it again due to Sile's voice still going "THE YRDEN TRAP IT WITH THE YRDEN THE YRDEN TRAP IT WITH THE YRDEN THE YRDEN TRAP IT WITH THE YRDEN THE YRDEN TRAP IT WITH THE YRDEN THE YRDEN TRAP IT WITH THE YRDEN THE YRDEN TRAP IT WITH THE YRDEN THE YRDEN TRAP IT WITH THE YRDEN" in my head since the Cthulhu fight, but 90% of time the ****er goes "Oh was that your trap I just stepped in? Sorry mate, here, you are now on fire" (my igni, of course, deals about as much damage as flexing at the enemies because I saw you guys going "Ho ho remember that merry igni spam lads? Oh joyous times! We are so overly powered are we not" and decided I'm above that).

Anyhow, as we can all agree this is all your fault, I expect some epic advice on handing the jedi skinhead's arse back to him.

I had a majorly hard fight against him... nothing seemed to work.

I throwing knifed him myself, which was apparently the cheap way. Think they nerfed that in the patches though.

So eh... in theory:

1. Hit him with all your bombs and knives.
2. If he casts Homosexual Shield dodge all over the place until it wears off.
3. Get in close and hack him and hope for the best.

I gather you are talking about the first fight against Letho (the second and final, if chosen of course, is MUCH easier, even too easy), so:
I managed to beat him without any Signs apart from Aard and frankly the role that the Aard played was marginal. In short - you have to stay close to him and to move. If you keep distance, he'll re-activate Quen ad infinitum and will eat at least half of your health with bombs. On the other hand, if you stay in melee range, he'll attempt to take you down with sword combos and occasionally will cast Aard but the latter will happen mostly (if not only) if you are attempting to block a strike which is not imminent (i.e. you are just pressing the "block" key before he even attempts to attack - that's 100% certain Aard on your head). So stay around him, roll around from time to time and block his attacks when he starts his offense, then counter-attack him - with one Aard beforehand to make sure that at least 2 blows won't be blocked, then retreat and return to repeat. Use heavy strikes when he's exposed to decrease his health faster. And that's it.

Got him with pretty much full health (I told him to wait just a minute while I sewed 3 mail enhancements on my kayran armor but I guess Dandelion'll skip that part in his ballads. Not that they helped me anyhow). Turned out I was still wearing D'yaebl, so I took the espadon out and did the aard->two right clicks->tumble away->run around waiting for his quen to pass without even feeling like an idiot about it anymore->repeat a few times.

So I was like "Got you, you bald ****er" and then he kicked my

in the cinematic.

I would've been pretty pissed off if I hadn't finished the first game. Now I know the inappropriately muscular first villain is going to get chopped to pieces soon enough after he kicked my ass the first time, to make way for the So It Was You All Along one.

I still don't quite understand why I needed to defeat him in order to get my arse kicked, though. As if he goes "I was thinking of sparing you but you're not dangerous enough".

Letho is a complex character and by no means your typical villain (he's actually no villain). I would've spared him myself but I felt like he owed me one fight. If there was an option to disarm him and leave him in the same situation he left Geralt in the ruins, that would've been my choice. Score settled, no hard feelings, everyone on his path.

EDIT

Right. That's it.

I'll probably do Iorveth's path too, sometime. Sure don't look forward to doing the dragon fight again, though. That was a... tedious one.

Still, all the best to the developers. Damn good job.

That's the word indeed. The thing managed to kill me only once if I remember correctly but the process of *me* killing *it* was slow and very... shaky.
Unfortunately I spoiled myself regarding the dragon's identity while ransacking the Internetz for other things and I haven't played Iorveth's path yet... Now I'll miss one nice surprise when I finally start it.

Is it just me or did CDPRED manage to make parrying even more useless than earlier?

I'm trying it out in Arena mode and I'm just getting slaughtered. Do they want me to roll around like some circus artist all the time or what?

50% damage decrease when parrying is FULLY upgraded?! Geralt really fricking sucks at this sword stuff.

EDIT: Think I changed my mind after reading what this CDPRED dude said about the new parrying system... seems like you just have to invest in the skill a bit.

In case someone doesn't know yet - the PC enhanced edition is expected to be released on 17th April and will be free to download if you already own the game. So f*** off all of you greedy anti-piracy morons that impose truckloads of restrictions on your products and buy government puppets to enforce SOPA-like s**** on the public - just sit down and take notes how it's supposed to be done!
