EDIT: Can anyone access DLC? My pre-order code isn't working, the free Troll DLC isn't showing up, and The Witcher website doesn't allow anyone to log in...
On STEAM the Troll Trouble did not show up until I ran STEAM as administrator then when I ran the launcher and signed in it showed up. When I clicked on it and then clicked on "download" it said, "downloading" but on the launcher itself it showed a "can't connect:trying again in 10 seconds" error message. I think their server is down or overloaded. Oh, I did not have a preorder code (STEAM did not provide one.)
Later you might try running the launcher as administrator to see if the server is back up.
Yeah, they are having some trouble on launch day.

Is it worth buying the game if you haven't played the first one? I mean I'll get myself a new pc in like half a years time but still the game seems good and my future pc will be able to handle it so there you go.

You'll have problems figuring out the story but the again you won't get the first game's story in its entirety if you haven't read the books. If you don't care about this though - why not?
From the few hours I spent on the game yesterday, I can say mainly good things. The new combat system allows you to see how fast and deadly Geralt really is but also it requires you to do much more than just point and click. In other words, I think I may need a new mouse in one month. The cutscenes are very well-made, the voice-actors have done a really nice job (at least so far and I kind of expected somewhat different voice for Roche), the remarks and the whole dialogues are harsh, witty and well thought out like before. In short - again very good atmosphere.
The bad part. Now, I know that there was almost no way to beat the soundtrack of the original but it looks like they didn't even make an effort. Much weaker than the first one, which is - and I'm not exaggerating - a masterpiece. Also - why did they replaced the full text of the dialogue options with short, console-like "summaries"? I prefer to know exactly what will Geralt say.
Otherwise it seems that it will be an excellent game, as expected.

Got my dirty hands on the game... power game time
edit: or not. My graphics card can barely sustain 15 dps on crappy settings and those "smart" programmers made it incompatible with 4:3 I'm still using.
Great. No Witcher 2 for me.

Actually I found that pretty boring in Witcher 1... reading through all that dialogue and then just hearing it repeated... like the new system a whole lot better.
Man I'm dying a lot in this game, damn Nekkers are sneaky basterds! Come outta nowhere...
Sorry to hear that DF, yeah your graphics card looks like the weak point...

@Doom
Did you try running it at a lower resolution? I'm going to run mine at a lower resolution at least until ATI gets out new drivers, which they are working on. I've got an ATI Radeon HD4350 graphics card so its not the latest and greatest. I've got 8GB of RAM and a Quad Core processor to help it though. I haven't played yet other than testing out some settings. I'll get in some game time probably in a couple of hours.
The official site servers are back up so you can download Troll Trouble. Just remember to run the launcher as administrator.

Nice PC Elodin I wish I had one like that. Unfortunately, I'm stuck with mine.
Fortunately, I fixed the monstrous lag a bit: updating my drivers (from 2009 to 2011 release) gave me a few fps more. Enough to run the game without wanting to kill myself. I can actually play this now
The only problem though is that my Sihill vanished. I imported an old save and all my gear is there.. except that sword. Were you importing an old save, Elodin? Do you have all your stuff back? I got Raven armor and Moonblade, but no Sihill

Yeah, updating drivers from 2009 helped I'm sure.
My own saves died with a hard drive. But I'll be importing a downloaded save that made the choices my character made and has Raven armor and Moonblade. My Geralt will focus on the Signs to Moonblade is rather nice for him.
This thread has some links to saved games.
From what I've read no one has been able to get Sihill to transfer.

Oh man thank you! I think I found a perfect save-game in there...!
Might start the game over with that.
EDIT: Well almost perfect at least... don't wanna side with the Order in the swamps... I didn't care about their quarrels, I just left.

So the Sihill is simply not imported! Whew, I thought my save got screwed or something.
However, other swords get imported, or so I heard. Great. Need to get the game and put a d'yabl or a harvall at my inventory

That would be great, yes! I tried D'yabl from a random save on the net and boy it sucks. Could you try to put Gwalchir in one slot and Harvall in the other?

So far I discovered that:
What gets imported: D'yabl
What doesnt: Mahakaman Rune Sihill, G'valchir.
Don't know about Harvall yet. Once Adrius gets home we'll see
anyway, it's not a big deal.
(spoiler)
I read that your imported stuff gets outdated as soon as middle of 1st act.

That's probably true... getting new stuff wouldn't be exciting otherwise. Would be nice if there's an option to re-forge those old swords though
Like:
Crafting Diagram: Arcane Sihill
Material:
Makahaman Rune Sihill
Magic stuff
Would let those swords stay useful.
Anyway, why the **** would you use those lesser Mutagens on your skills if they can't be replaced later? Everyone's just gonna wait for the epic level mutagens instead.
EDIT: Man I really gotta thank you Elodin, that thread had a save with a guy who made the EXACT same choices as I did in my playthrough, down to the right equipment even
Awesome, now I'm gonna start over with this save
EDIT2: Aerondight and Gwalhir gets imported as well. Got all my equipment... nice! Raven's armor looks badass as well.... very glad I got this savegame.
EDIT3: All the money gets imported too hahaha even though the developers said it wouldn't... gonna edit the save-game to have 0 Orens...

The weird part is I got no gold at all (started with 200 orens)
Anyway...
Made it through prologue (DAMN that's one LONG prologue!!) and to some act1. I am pleased by the game's difficulty so far (on hard). I am however completely not pleased with the strain it puts on my PC. I had to quit because in Act I, in the city, I have around 10-12 fps when running around, and in fight it's even lower. Cuts the enjoyment to zero.
Guess without stronger graphics card I might as well quit for some time. Oh well. The game's definitively well crafted and the story seems fun. On the other hand, it won't really run away

Woohoo... finally managed to hit that guy with the Ballista in the prologue! Use the arrow keys and space to aim for 1,5 degrees, the mouse sucks to aim with! Quite satisfying
Yeah Flotsam is quite demanding, though I personally have quite a stable FPS I can still hear my computer working harder

Nah... don't feel like it
It doesn't feel laggy though sometimes it stutters for like 2/10 of a second... areas loading I guess. My Dual Core probably can't keep up the enviroment loading thread at 100%.
Though this is only in Flotsam so far. In all other places it's pretty damn smooth. I really like the forest around Flotsam... so cozy ('til Nekkers own me outta ****ing nowhere)
Here's my settings if you're interested, might help ya if you compare it to my specs.

Woah. Oh well, guess I won't get much farther without upgrading the graphics card.
Second hand GeForce GFX 260 costs about 50 euro, and seems much stronger than my Radeon 2900xt. Maybe it will do.
