I would prefer a lineup like this:

Core:
Stalker
Blood Fury
Evil Eye

Elite:
Minotaur
Manticore
Hydra

Champion:
Faceless
Black Dragon

That's a very good lineup. A perfect example that Enroth and Ashan can coexist peacefully.

Its flawed to me because of its lack of shooters. Make the faceless a war machine, upgrade the hydra to champ and insert a shadow witch or Medusa and I think you're laughing.

The Faceless could be a shooter. Besides, many factions in HoMM history have only had one shooter, and that was fine.

Not laughing at all. And while the Medusa fits so good in Dungeon -though only appearing there in 2 games- we could keep it for Sanctuary, as for the Shadow Witch you got that covered with the Blood Fury, which is visually speaking basically the same unit but of lower tier (BDSM snitch). The faceless as a Champion seems to offer something more interesting than as a War Machine as it could be opposed to the Seraph and the Hydra was a perfect Elite in H5.

Since Raptor Dungeon will never happen, this is the best possible Dark Elf Dungeon lineup:

Core
1. Stalker -> Assassin
2. Beholder -> Evil Eye
3. Witch -> Matriarch

Elite
4. Minotaur -> Taskmaster
5. Werewolf -> Lycanthropy
6. Manticore -> Scorpicore

Champ
7. Purple Dragon -> Amethyst Dragon
8. Faceless -> Puppeteer

While a werewolf fits in with dark elves in general, I don't think it belongs in Ashan's Dungeon. The town is underground, and it makes little sense for such a moon-centric creature to be there. Also, there are a lot of worthy creatures fighting over a spot somewhere in the Dungeon army, and if the werewolf is included, it would be at the expense of better creatures.

Isn't this technicaly 6 lineup? 2 DE in Core. Rest Beasts. Only Faceless moved to champ and Hydra took their space.
I like this lineup a lot, I just had the need to point out how the H6 one was similar

After the emphasis that was placed on spell casters in the discover dungeon article I have a hard time seeing a lineup without an elite creature that fits that description.

What's the general consensus on the faceless? I didn't hate on them but I wasnt overly enthralled with them either. Personally I hope they're not in one of the lineups, not the end of the world if they are but I think there's better options

Unless people are insistent at the notion of Minotaurs being Elite, how about this lineup?

Core:
Assassin
Minotaur
Evil Eye

Elite:
Manticore
Medusa
Hydra

Champion:
Faceless
Black Dragon

Let's assume Assassin is of the H5 shooter variety as well.

Hm, humanoid cattle in core... No, can't see it, I mean even Dexters, one of the smallest breeds in the world bottom out at about 600 pounds (for the cows), so I really can't see any minotaur being smaller than a really big strong man, which kind of aims them at Elite.

My line-up

Core:

Fungoid/Fungus Hulk- nature spirit of the caves, appears as a walking, spear-toting mushroom. A tank with resistance to physical damage (but vulnerability to fire), has a chance to release confusion-causing spores upon being hit
Assassin
Beholder

Elite:

Chimera Rider
Minotaur
Medusa

Champion:

Faceless
Black Dragon

Be original guys. Let's have Purple Dragon and then Amethyst Dragon for upgrade.

And Medusa best fits Sanctuary.

Uncalled for.

In regards to purple dragons, it'd be less original and more getting back to roots.

Well you can, creature-wise, H6 Dungeon's lineup was pretty good.

- No way you have "purple and amethyst" dragons, it is Black Dragon or it's not Dungeon. Also, the more the factions gets away from the purple theme, the better.

- You can have "blood furies" as core, but you can't have Matriarch as anything less than Elite, no matter how misogynist anyone could be. Matriarch implies a position of power, not regular troops. You can't have more units from a ruling class than common troops.

- I LOVE werewolves, I really really like them, but they just don't fit with this faction.

I liked H5 scouts over H6, though if Beholder returns (and I like them) it could be too much shooting (and Beholder on H6 already had damage over time effect), so I could accept either version on that case. Furies with the strike and return ability would be great too (though it would require harpies not returning to stronghold). Scout-Fury-Beholder would form a nice core group.

Then you put Minotaurs, Hydras and either Medusas (for extra shooter and crippling, they could be cursed matriarchs like warhammer medusas given how much they take from warhammer) or Manticure for an extra flyer and round up your elite troops, with Black Dragons and Faceless (shooter/caster?) as the options for Champions.

If 'Reign of Fire' taught me anything, it is that dragons have harems, apparently.

I completely agree with everything you say here, especially the parts I emboldened.

I think it's pretty likely we'll see one Dark Elf unit in the elite tier, and I do not want to see three Dark Elves in the line-up, so I'm encouraging Assassins (or Furies) in the core and Shadow Priestesses in the elite. If for some reason we don't get a Dark Elf in the elite, then I'd be okay with two in the core.

I'd be very happy with this - Minotaur, Hydra, Medusa/Manticore - for the elite tier. On a side note, there are renegade Medusas in Ashan, which could be a good way to get them back into Dungeon. Sadly, I do think a Dark Elf will replace one of these. So again, I'd like the Assassins in the core and Shadow Priestesses in the elite, and hopefully no more. The rest beasts, please.

A solution I would opt for myself would be merging the Fury and Assassin into one unit - i.e. give it name and looks and poison of Assassin (H5) but give it strike/return ability of furies. A hit/run tactics fits well with the Assassin theme, and I think the concept of a "fury" seems a bit vague, like just a means to get a (female) elven unit into the line-up rather than a unit that has a solid thematic or mythologic foundation. If the Evil Eye re-enters the line-up, the Assassin can lose the ranged ability, and we no longer need the Fury.

My thoughts...

I also think Assassins and Furies should be merged, and that the Dungeon should have no more than 2 Dark Elf units (maybe 3 if the Chimera/Manticore is given a rider) with the rest being monsters.

All my line-ups include the Assassin as a fast melee/semi-ranged (with Strike and Return, Backstab- giving extra damage against creatures who already spent their retaliation- and possibly Poison) at Core, and a Shadow Witch/Medusa (given a new backstory as transformed Dark Elves) at Elite.
