IMO, people like that should be punished by death. Prison will do them no good, nor will fix them.

Why are you comparing sentences across countries? I'm sure the sentence would differ had the case been in the US.

Way to show the world how absolutely pathetic your legal system is Norway. 77 lives nets you 21 years. That comes to about 3 months per life.
He should be executed. There is no point in keeping such an abomination alive.
Oh, and don't even bother arguing the 5-year-renewal. Such a ridiculous option wouldn't be needed if Norwegian lawmakers had the guts to enact severe sentencing guidelines.

That was the maximum sentence, yes, so the blame is on lawmakers. But passing such laws wasn't easy pre-Breivik, in a country that couldn't even imagine a mass murderer going rampage in their country
